1. 10 Steps to Choosing the Right Chiropractor

2. Step 1Ask relatives, friends, or family if they have any recommendations- Find a doctor that is competent and trustworthyComfortability with your doctor will ensure your path to recovery is quick and fruitful

3. Step 2 Do research to locate potential chiropractors in your area Search on-line and read up on education, training, and background information for chiropractic firmsRead patient reviews and testimonies

4. Step 3 Schedule an interview or consultation with the chiropractors you have in mindOnce you narrow down your choices pick a few candidates and set up interviews or face-to-face appointments. Make it a goal to visit at least 3 different chiropractic offices before making your final decision, and come prepared with a list of questions to ask during the initial interview.

5. Step 4 Gain knowledge of specialties What chiropractic techniques do they implement and what do they specialize in? Not only should you be aware of your chiropractor’s education and training, but you should also ask what areas of chiropractic care he or she specializes in. Naturally, selecting a doctor that is most familiar with your problem areas gives you an advantage to a fast recovery and lasting healthy results.

6. Step 5 How do they evaluate their patient’s problem areas? Do they offer free consultations, request medical history, examine your current performance, posture, and spinal alignment. It’s relevant to pay close attention in how a chiropractic office will decipher your injuries. Not all practices and procedures in chiropractic care are safe, and being able to recognize “red flags” is important.

7. Step 6 What chiropractic techniques and manipulation styles do they use? Some chiropractic treatment plans involve a forceful hands-on approach vs. a low-impact “gentle” method. The type of treatment used is driven by the patient’s preferences, style, and what they are comfortable with. Methods commonly used: Flexion-distraction technique, Instrument-assisted manipulation, Specific spinal manipulation (high-velocity low-amplitude thrust), and spinal mobilization (low force or gentle chiropractic techniques.)

8. Step 8 What are the procedures and fees to receive treatment Is the chiropractor in your insurance network? What is the policy of payment? Does the chiropractor offer any discounts?

9. Step 7 What treatment programs are typically offered? How to they aid in recovery? Do they use a combination of spinal manipulation, manual therapy, and other techniques to aid in recovery? Do they provide proper documentation and reports pertaining about your injuries? If results aren’t being reached in 2-4 weeks, are they willing to revise treatment plans even if it means referring the patient elsewhere? Do they educate patients on nutrition, eating habits, and daily living routines to support restoration?

10. Step 9 What should you expect on your first chiropractic adjustment? Every chiropractic office will vary depending on their procedures, but typically your first visit will consist of questions pertaining to current pain and medical history. Following a chiropractic exam, including general tests measuring blood pressure, pulse respiration, reflexes and additional assessments that are necessary. Based on your past medical records and examination further diagnostic studies may be ordered including X-ray, MRI, and other laboratory tests. Lastly, diagnosing your condition, specific chiropractic treatment, and anticipated length of chiropractic care will be addressed.

11. Step 10 Does the chiropractor have your needs and recovery in best interest? Finally, follow your natural intuition and instincts when picking your chiropractor. No one knows you better than yourself so who is better than to point yourself in the right direction, than you!
