1 Overview of the Abbreviated Interview
Overview of the Abbreviated Interview Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire, 2 nd Revision (JVQ - R2) In the full JVQ - R2 interview , when a respondent answers yes to a victimization screener, they are asked follow - up questions. The complete JVQ - R2 includes 39 follow - up questions on a variety of incident, perpetrator, and victim characteristics. Some of these, such as whether the incident occurred in the past year and perpetrator identity, are asked about all or nearly all victimization reports. We recogn ize, however, that it may not always be possible to administer the full JVQ - R2, but there is still some interest and ability in collecting some key incident details, such as the identity of the perpetrator, the presence of injury for physical assaults, etc . This Abbreviated Youth Interview can be used to collect information on rates of exposure for the core JVQ - R2 items, plus a few key incident characteristics. In some cases, the items have also been simplified to make it easier to administer. The Abbrev iated Youth Interview might be useful in clinical settings or for smaller research studies, especially if the JVQ will be administered as a personal interview with no computer assistance (because the pattern of follow - ups can be somewhat complex in the ful l interview). There are two even shorter alternatives to the Abbreviated Youth Interview, the Screener Sum Version, which identifies whether a youth has experienced each type of victimization but collects no incident details, the Reduced Item Version, a 12 - item short form. Other briefer alternatives to the full JVQ - R2. In addition to the Abbreviated Interview , other briefer alternatives to the full JVQ - R2 include the Reduced Item Version ( 12 items, with no follow - up questions on incident characteris tics) and the Abbreviated Interview ( screeners with a selected subset of follow - up items). Many users also choose to use specific modules or items that meet their needs. Consult the full questionnaire and manual for details on these alternatives, follow - up items (on injury, perpetrator identity, etc) and administration procedures.
