Discrimination Complañnt Procedii.Jire Complaints regarding the interpretation or application of the district's nondiscrimination policy shall be processed in accordance with the following procedures: Informal Pmcedii.Jire: (Recommended bii.Jit not req¡II.Jiired) Any person who feels that he/she shall in turn investigate the complaint and respond to the complainant within 5 [five] school days. lf this response is not acceptable to the complainant, he/she may initiate formal procedures. lf the building principal is the subject of the complaint, file a complaint directly with the superintendent. lf the superintendent is the subject of the complaint, the complainant may be filed with the Board chairman. A person can bypass the informal procedure and proceed directly to the formal procedure. Formal Procedure: Step 1: A written complaint O [ten] school days. Step 11: lf school days after receipt of the building principal's response O [ten] school days. Step 111: lf the complainant is not satisfied with the decision of the superintendent, a written appeal may be filed with the Board within 5 [five] school days of receipt of the superintendent's response to Step an attempt to resolve the complaint, the Board shall meet with the concerned parties and their representative at the next regular or special Board meeting. A copy of the Board's decision shall be sent to the complainant within 1 O [ten] school days 90 days, whichever occurs first, he/she may appeal in writing to the State Superintendent f Public lnstruction, Oregon Department of Education 255 Capitel Street NE, Salem, OR 97310. 41
