ractiveduty.Iapplaudeveryone'seffortsandencourageyoutokeepupthequalityproduct.J'Feb.1,1994Asweenter1994,after14yearsasastaffmemberofourSociety,IwouldliketoreminisceandgiveyouabriefhistoryofourSociety.In1979,CoionelGeorgeS.Howardaskedmeaboutbecomingastaffmemberofanew`tobetormed"retireebanddirectorsorganization.Then,asnow,Iseemedtobetheonlyonewhohadkeptanalphabeflcalcardfilewitheachname,address,phonenumberandspouse'sname,ofeachofourretiredbanddirectors.Shortlyafterourphoneconversation,IreceivedaletterfromLTCPaulP.Weckesser,tellingmeabouttheforming,andpurposeoftheSociety.`TheSocietyistoformedtotieustogetherinspiritandcamaraderie,aswellasprovidehistoricalrecord."Acurrentlistoftheretiredbanddirectors,asofSeptember,1979wasenclosed.Itreflectedsixtynine69names.Staffmembersoftheoriginalorganizationwere:Col.GeorgeS.Howard,`President/ChiefEmeritus";MajorHaroldLCopenhaver,"ExecutiveSecretaryfTreasurer",CWOLouisC.Kriebei,`FieldRepresentative"andITCPaulP.Weckesser,"Founder,"IhavesincelearnedthatVincewasoneofthefirsttorecommendtoColonelHowardtheideaofabanddirectorsretireesociety.IsentalettertoeachretireeaskingfortheirachievementssinceretirementanditwaspublishedInour`RetireeBulletin"andmailedtoeachmember.Iwouldtypethebulletin,mallittoCope-hewouldhaveitreproducedandmailthem.Weaisoincludedinformationofgeneralinteresttoall,suchas:deaths,concerts,etc.in1987,CoperetiredfromthestaffandLTCRichardThurstonacceptedthepositionofTreasurer.Dickremainedwithusuntil1988whenhisworkloadexceededhisavailabletime.Then,hi1988,MajorHermanVincentacceptedthisresponsibleposition.Thereweresomeotherchangesmadewithinthenextfew.years;ColonelHoward,ChiefEmeritus,LouisC.Krlebel,President,HermanVincent,VicePresident/Treasurer.in1985,weinvitedthebandsuperintendentstojoinoursociety.They-duringmanybanddirectorsPCSmoves-assumedthepositionasdirectoroftheband;andmanywantedtokeepincontact.Sothenamewaschangedto:"TheUSAFRetiredBandDirectors&SuperintendentsSociety."Thepresentname01ourpublication,"CODA"was"invented'byourVicePresident/Treasurer/Layout-PublisheroftheCODA,HermanVincent.Hehasdevotedmanyhoursonhiscomputertomakethepublicationcommunicative,enjoyableandattractiveaswellasprofessional.VinceandIjointlyediteachissueoftheCODAandkeepincontactwiththeactivedutybandcommanders.WehaverecentlyInvitedalltheactivedutyCommandersandSuperintendentstojoinourSociety.Wedependoneachofyoufordues,informationandcontinuedsupport.Yourcooperationandassistanceisappreciated.Coda CSAFcannotbereleaseduntilafterthePresidentsbudgetmessageInFebruary.2.USAFBandswillbeutilizedindrugdemandreductionprograms.3.ThenextBandleader'sconferencewillbeheldinChicagoattheMidWestinDec.1994.4.TheOJTprogramwillberevised,usingnewcomputertechnology.5.Navy,Army,andMarinebands-branchpersonnelmadepresentations.6.USAF/MPCprovidedabriefingonofficerassignments.7.ContingencyplansoreunderwayforfuneralsofanyofthefivelivingformerPresidents.ArtWigginsorWigginsAit`ThoughtyouallmightliketohaveacopyofmylatestarrangementlHappyHolidays-HappyNewYear.WigCoda
