Itcannot be stated enough that the Thaishould not be extreme in any way, but itsappearance and personality should reflectits Thailand heritage. The Thai is not, andbreed. The breed began in the 1950swhen breeders scattered around the worldchose to breed, or sometimes unwittinglycontinued to breed, Siamese of themoderate, early 20th century type. In the1980s, the first breed clubs dedicated tothese cats were established in the UnitedStates and Europe. In 2001, breedersbegan importing indigenous pointed catsfrom Thailand in a conscious effort toexpand and preserve a healthy gene pool
