13. 2 May 2015On Saturday 2 May, almost four weeks after the accident, I was standing in the living-room. I did my best to have both eyes blink synchronously again.
14. 2 May 2015My right eye was still hard to open due to the swellings and I was practicing opening and closing it by will. When only my left eye was opened, I saw chairs and tables, wardrobes and cat's toys, an empty coffeemug, a piano a door and a window.
15. 2 May 2015With only my right eye open I saw a purplish-reddish screen, that had no relation whatsoever with the living-room. Or had it?
16. 2 May 2015Somewhere in that dark purple there was a spot that was just slightly redder. It looked as if it were in the place where the window was. It was just that that was impossible, because a blind eye cannot see windows.
17. 2 May 2015I guessed I was probably seeing an after-image of the left eye, a sort of residu that stuck in my perception. It wasn't all that impressive anyway, just some dark purple in a slightly darker purple.
18. 2 May 2015Three days later I went back for my next check-up and no improvement in the sight of my right eye could be established, until the resident shone into my eye with a little lamp and asked if I could see the light.
19. 2 May 2015I said I thought I could see two sources of light. After some detective work we found out that one light source was the pocket lamp en the other one was a light in the back of the office.
20. 2 May 2015The resident was very surprised and her surprise grew when she thought se could see something inside my eye that went against all her expectations: the retina was no longer cropped up.
21. 2 May 2015The surprised resident went for doctor Postma. She looked into the eye and started to cheer."This is impossible!" she cried out. "I have seen the inside of this eye. The retina was cropped up. And no it no longer is. I have never seen anything like this."
22. 2 May 2015Doctor Postma ordered to have a scan made of the eye, but there was still so much blood inside, that she couldn't determine in how far the retina was damaged.
23. 2 May 2015"What does this mean for the chances of recovering my sight?" I asked. Doctor Postma didn't want to speculate about that."Wait and see", she said. "We don't know what the retina will do and in what state it is."Se started entering data into the computer and while doing so she said to the resident: "This observation is best described as a miracle."
