Scope and Purpose To establish specifications for acceptable key box equipment, key type and mounting location and position. II. Code Authority International Fire Code (2012) 506.1 III. Special Provisions Where access to or within a structure or an area is restricted because of secured openings or where immediate access is necessary for life - saving or fire - fighting purposes, the fire code official is authorized to require a key box to be installed in an approved location. The key box shall be of an approved type and shall contain keys to gain necessary access as required by the fire code official. A. The key box shall be the key box indi cated below. The lock cylinder of the key box shall be configured by an approved professional locksmith for the City of SeaTac fire code official . B. The key box shall be located within close proximity of the door the key is provided to open as approved by the fire code official . The key box shall be securely mounted between four and six feet above grade. C. The operator of the building shall immediately notify the fire code official and provide the new key when a lock is changed or re - keyed. The key to such lock shall be secured in the key box and labeled with the building name, address and door designation.
