Coronavirus Statement from BATA This communication is for information purposes only and not to create unnecessary panic. As a public transportation service, BATA has been pro-active in the reduction of viruses for our passengers and drivers. With the resources that have been provided by the Federal Transit Authority and understanding our responsibility as public transportation providers working with the general public, we wanted to convey our plan of action in this health crisis involving COVID-19. 1. We have information posters in all our vehicles as well as our offices. They include basic instructions on personal hygiene and what symptoms can be involved for this virus. 2. Employees that are symptomatic or have been knowingly exposed to this virus are requested to not come to work. 3. If you, your child, a family member, or a resident of the facility we are providing transportation for are ill, we ask you to refrain from using public transportation. 4. We understand we’re being redundant in saying “Wash Your Hands” to the tune of singing Happy Birthday – that’s how long it’s supposed to take to do so effectively. 5. Daily or multi times a day, our team at BATA is sanitizing the insides of the vehicles. Supplies that meet the virus fighting criteria are being used. 6. Other efforts include being in communication with the local Emergency Management of Brookings County, taking part in the regular meetings of Pandemic Preparedness Committee, and LEPC (Local Emergency Management Committee). Here are some tips for passengers, families, and everyone in the community: 1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. 2. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and throw it in the trash. 3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. 4. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces like phones, keys, wallets, doorknobs, etc. 5. Stay home when you are sick (except to get medical care). 6. Wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands. The safety of our team as well as those we serve are our priority. We cannot protect everyone from everything; however, we can be pro-active in communication and in our actions to serve others in the safest way possible. Thank you for supporting BATA. There is a lot of information (and disinformation) about the COVID-19 virus floating around across all media channels. A good element of defense is to stay informed and follow preventative practices diligently. Here is just one of many online resources in learning more about corona viruses. https://medlineplus.gov/coronavirusinfections.html
