Dr. Lai was the top performing physician out of 200 MDX Hawai`i primary care physicians eligible for this award. He was born in Taiwan and went to Taipei Medical University. Determined to be a surgeon, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, for his surgical residency. Because he learned English quickly and connected well with patients, his professors encouraged him to switch his concentration to internal medicine. He went on to receive his Masters in Public Health from Harvard University. While overseeing a full panel of patients, Dr. Lai served as an Assistant Medical Director of Internal Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor for Internal Medicine at University of Hawaii.
