1 Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) Competition for Support Award Applications due: November 1 6 , 201 8 Through the Center for Global Business (CGB) , the Smith School supports the professional development and training of faculty in the area of international and global business through participating in Faculty Development in International Business programs offered by CGB and other business schools with the Center for International Business Education grant . The CGB also strives to help develop faculty from other educational institutions to help broaden the reach of CIBE resources. To this end, CGB is actively seeking to support one faculty member from a Minority Serving Institution or Community College who is interested in broadening his/her understanding of gl obal business and using the FDIB as a platform for developing a course that will be delivered at his/her home institution or resources to augment the international content of a course already offered. CIBE Background The Center is one of 17 federally - fu nded programs located at univer sities across the US. The CIBE program was created by Congress under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to increase and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding and competitiveness. Admin istered by the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI, Part B of the Higher Education Act of 1965, the CIBE network links the manpower and technological needs of the United States business community with the international education, language training, and research capacities of universities across the country. The Center’s specific focus for the 2014 - 2018 funding cycle is emerging and frontier markets. Faculty eligibility: Applying faculty must be full - time faculty members of a MSI or Community C ollege. Preference will be given to faculty who have not participated in a CIBE - sponsored FDIB in the last two years. Award Application The faculty member must complete the application , which includes (FDIB program selection and rationale). Additionally, the applicant must explain what resources they will create following their FDIB experience; these resources w ill contribute to a portal of

2 resources that will be available to othe
resources that will be available to other faculty within the CIBER network. Finally, applying faculty must provide a resume and a letter of support from their Dean of their associated school. Upon review of applications, one f aculty member will be chosen to receive financial support from Smith CIBE to participate in a FDIB of their choosing. Financial support will be granted in an amount up to $4,500.00. This amount will be paid directly to the CIBE organizing the FDIB and co ver the program fee of the FDIB only. The award cannot be applied to airfare, costs associated with passports, port of entry visa fees (if applicable), visas, international departure taxes, international airfare, ground transportation for personal use tr ips, most meals, baggage charges, porterage, tips, and any incidental expenses. CIBE Hosted Application As spots for FDIBs are limited, award applicants are encouraged to complete the applications of the CIBE hosted FDIB programs in tandem with this appli cation to ensure their participation. The faculty awarded support is not guaranteed space on their preferred FDIB unless they have applied and are accepted to the hosted FDIB separately. 2 As a condition of accepting the award , the faculty member will be re quired to complete the following: 1) Within four weeks of travel, submit a two - page report to CIBE detailing the experience and skills and knowledge gained through the program. 2) Develop materials within two months of travel – simulation, case, article, or other learning tool – to be used in the classroom and shared with faculty at the Smith School and in the CIBE network. Timeline ● Application deadline: November 1 6, 2018 ● Impact Report of Awardee: Two weeks after return from FDIB ● Resources in I nternational Business: Two months after return from FDIB To be considered, faculty must submit a completed appl ication , letter of support from their Dean of their associated school, and a resume or CV no later than November 16 , 201 8 . All application materials should be sent in one e - mail message to Marina Augoustidis, Assistant Director of CIBE Programs , at maugoustidis@rhsmith.umd.edu .
