1. CentaursThe Centaurs were half-man half-horse creatures. Their upper half was human, while their lower half had four legs like a horse. One centaur named Chiron was famous for his wisdom and knowledge and taught many Greek, including Achilles and Jason of the Argonauts.

2. AchillesWas a human who as a child was dipped in the river Styx by his mother. The rivers water was supposed to give him extra strong powers making him a great fighter that was hard to kill.However his mother help him by the heel of his foot and this did not get wet. Later in a battle an arrow hit his heel and he dies. “Achilles heel” is a saying meaning your weak spot.

3. CerberusThe Cerberus was a giant three-headed dog that guarded the gates of the Underworld. Cerberus was the offspring of the feared monster Typhon. Heracles had to capture Cerberus as one of his Twelve tasks.

4. Heracles (Hercules)Was the son of the god Zeus but was also human. He was mightily strong and a fearless fighter protecting human kind from all kinds of monsters and dangers.

5. HarpiesThe harpies were flying creatures with the faces of women. The harpies are famous for stealing the food of Phineus every time he tried to eat. Jason and the Argonauts were going to kill the harpies when the goddess Iris intervened and promised that the harpies would not bother Phineus any longer.

6. HydraThe hydra was a giant monster with nine heads. The problem was that if you cut one head off, another would quickly grow back. Hercules killed the hydra as one of his Twelve tasks.

7. PoseidonPoseidon was god of the sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses and is one of the most bad-tempered, moody and greedy gods. He was also known as protector of all waters and sailors.
