The Essential Guide to Leading 1 HUG Overview / 3 2 How to Become a HUG Leader / 5 3 HUG Expectations / 10 4 What Makes a Good HUG / 16 5 Resources / 22 CONTENTS 2 A HubSpot User Group (HUG) is a group of HubSpot users, customers, and fans who meet in person at least once per quarter. These HUG meetups focus on sharing best practices in inbound marketing and the HubSpot software, so anyone who wants to learn is welcome to attend. HUG meetups are organized and run by the HUG leader. WHAT IS A HUG? 3 Members expect to learn marketing tips, tools, and tricks to start, improve, or expand upon their inbound marketing efforts. The education itself can be led by the HUG leader or fellow members. HubSpot employees often travel to HUGs to share HubSpot tips and news to keep the group up to date. HUGs are one of the strongest resources for HubSpot customers, and we are thankful to our HUG leaders who lead them. WHAT IS A HUG? 4 HOW TO BECOME A HUG LEADER . CHAPTER 1 Without our amazing HubSpot User Group leaders across the world, this HUG program could not exist. The people HubSpot considers for HUG l eadership are dedicated individuals who are committed to making their HUG a long - term success. HOW TO BECOME A HUG LEADER 6 HUG leaders are expected to: 1. Be a HubSpot customer in good - standing, with a six month or longer history. 2. Be evaluated annually by HubSpot to guarantee the leader is maintaining a positive environment. 3. Host 4 - 6 meetups per year. 4. Read and stay abreast to HubSpot emails and attend HUG office hours hosted by HubSpot. 5. Commit to 1 - 2 hours per week to maintain and grow the group. HUG LEADER GUIDELINES & EXPECTATIONS 7 HUG leaders are expected to: 6. Post meeting agendas to their LinkedIn groups and hosts ongoing online discussions. 7. Ensure that meet up content and presentations are educational in nature. 8. Avoid using the HUG as a direct method to send traffic or leads to his/her website. NOTE: HubSpot VARS who want to become HUG leaders need to be Certified HubSpot Partners. HUG LEADER GUIDELINES & EXPECTATIONS 8 All HUG leaders are required to be Inbound Certified and HubSpot Certified through the HubSpot Academy prior to becoming a HUG leader. That includes passing both exams and the HubSpot Certification practicum: HUG LEADERS SHOULD MASTER INBOUND 9 HUG EXPECTATIONS . CHAPTER 2 IT TAKES TIME TO GROW AND NURTURE YOUR HUG. As a HUG leader, you are expected to act as a thought leader and an educational resource for HUG members. It is your responsibility to plan each meetup by picking a location, date, time and topic. HUG promotion is also a HUG leader task that requires you to share your event on social media channels and notify HubSpot of your event via the HUG form so we can promote it too. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU 12 During each meetup, check - in your members via this landing page . This is how we collect your attendee report and measure the success of the HUG program. We are also happy to reimburse you for any expenses up to $10 per head. To receive reimbursement, send your food/beverage receipt and attendee head count to Sarah Papachristos. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU 13 HubSpot will support HUG leaders by acting as a thought leader and educational resource. We will provide you with updated and valuable content to share with your members. We will raise awareness of local HUG meetups by posting the events on the HUG calendar. We will also send a HubSpotter to each HUG city 2x per year. HOW HUBSPOT WILL SUPPORT YOU 14 HubSpot will raise awareness of local HUGs by alerting new and current customers of groups near them. HUGs that are in exceptional, long term standing will be given the opportunity to write guest blog posts about their recent meetups on the HubSpot Academy blog. To be considered, HUGs need to be meeting regularly and discussing educational and helpful topics. HOW HUBSPOT WILL SUPPORT YOU 15 To thank you for your hard work, we’re excited to offer our fantastic HUG leaders the following perks: • Meetup reimbursement for up to $10 per head for each meetup. • A free edition of HubSpot’s enterprise software to use solely for your HUG. • Special INBOUND discounts & perks during our annual conference! • HubSpot promotion of your HUG through our Twitter and LinkedIn accounts. HOW HUBSPOT WILL SUPPORT YOU 16 WHAT MAKES A GOOD HUG . CHAPTER 3 • Prepare all meetups 45 days in advance. • Setting & announcing your meetup dates for the year is essential for HUG success. • Chose a topic that will be interesting or useful to a variety of customers. Utilize the HUG library . • Practice your presentation at least 3 times before every meetup. MEETUP PREPARATION 18 ENCOURAGE GROUP DISCUSSION AND QUESTIONS! Teach your members something! Make the event worth their time and yours. By sharing helpful tips, common challenges and noteworthy successes, you will have your members coming back for more. PROVIDE VALUE 20 WHAT IS A KEYWORD ? PERSPECTIVE: Consumer/ Prospect Build relationships outside of the meetup on social media. Providing the option for light appetizers, snacks and beverages is always a nice gesture. Be mindful that some meetups are during breakfast/lunch/dinner and members may expect refreshments. These snacks could be as simple as finger sandwiches or pizza. Remember, HubSpot will reimburse HUG leaders for up to $10 per head for each meetup. OFFER A SNACK 22 RESOURCES .
