Quality Adjudication is Most Crucial The quality of any music event is in direct proportion to the quality of adjudication at the event
Contest Format Ranking (most common at a contest) Rating Ranking AND Rating Special awards such as “Best in Class” or “Caption Awards”
Festival Format Sometimes also called an Assessment or Evaluation Rating (most common at a festival) Ranking (uncommon at a festival) Rating and Ranking (uncommon at a festival) No ranking OR rating (adjudicator feedback and clinic only) Special awards such as “Best in Class” or “Caption Awards”
Ranking Comparison to other entries by placement One ”winner”, “champion”, or “first place” Sometimes for advancement from one contest to the another Should include “Triple C” adjudication method of Compliment, Criticize, and provide a Course for improvement Usually involves a rubric and/or sliding numerical scale
