Coverage actionThis is how they show the live event or production to the viewers at home. Also the different cameras they use to film the event.
For example in the clip above of the T4 concert they use lots of different camera angles and shots of the crowd and musician to keep the event a lot more interesting for the viewers at home. (00:21:36)Slide5
Communicating meaning to the viewerThis is where they use certain camera angles to show facial expressions or reactions of something that just happened or that is happening.
Communicating meaning to the viewer is used a lot in the clip of the Coldplay concert (5:35), for example they show a shot at the end of the singers finishing their song, then the crowd cheering and then the singers walking off stage. This is so that the viewers at home know the reaction of the singers and crowd.Slide6
Maintaining viewer interestThis is when a variety of camera angles and different length of shots are used to keep people watching the event, as it makes it more exciting.
In the clip of The Graham Norton Show they use a variety of camera angles to show the different guests reactions and so we can concentrate more on what they are saying and not get distracted by something else. (03:09:04)Slide7
Multi – camera simultaneous recordingThis is when you are filming live with more than one camera at the same time
. The Director will tell the cameramen which shots they will want them to do and when. This is used in The Graham Norton Show from (07:11:23) this is so that you can see what everyone thinks quickly without having to stop and change the camera angle. Slide8
Constraints of studio or location environmentThis is where you are filming live outside and you need to be aware of the weather, light and sound and how this can effect your filming.
The weather, sound and lighting can be a problem because if the microphones are not set up properly no one will be able to hear the singer. They could make sure this does not happen by checking each microphone properly before each performer goes on stage. When you are filming inside a studio you need are limited to the amount of space you can use, you also need to now about the health and safety hazards as this could effect the live show.
For example in the T4 clip they have special equipment with them so that if it is windy you can still hear the singers properly without any problems. At point (01:50:62) there is an example.Another example would be, in the BBC clip the camera men would need to be careful of all of the cables as they move the cameras. An example of this would be from this point onwards (02:05:12). Slide9
Visual StyleVisual Style is where a certain live show will use the same graphics and bright colours to draw peoples attention.
This is shown in the Graham Norton they use bright colours and graphics a lot. As they use bright red and purple in the background it grabs the attention of viewers at home. Also the editing is the same for each show. (02:20:05)
