For MOD, “people-first” isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a foundational belief that is integral to the company’s wildly successful business.  MOD exists not just to turn a profit and serve customers but also to provide equitable opportunity and build community through inclusive, impactful hiring practices that prioritize people who face barriers to employment, including the formerly incarcerated and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.MOD is more about people than pizza, it’s about the ability to make positive social impact across communities. In need of a powerful, cloud-based, people-centric approach—and a desire to partner with a trusted, single vendor—MOD Pizza decided to implement SAP SuccessFactors and SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud for ease of implementation, go-forward upkeep and future innovative potential.SAP Business Technology Platform also provides the essential, scalable foundation for the company’s digital transformation and SAP Master Data Integration enables accurate data to be available enterprise-wide. MOD is also using Qualtrics Experience Management solutions in order to capture employee feedback and further refine recruiting and onboarding processes.With SAP, MOD Pizza been able to automate event-change data—from up to 400 event changes each day—as well as many new-hire processes, allowing to seamlessly and efficiently onboard 1000 new hires each month. This means new employees can report for work faster than ever, and MOD is saving more than 15 hours a week in labor by avoiding manual data entry errors. MOD averages 5000 surveys each month, ensuring that employee experience remains a top priority as the business grows.Automating invoice processing reduces paper trails and helps the team focus on solution focused improvements.With more than 10,000 employees, known as the MOD Squad, and hundreds of employee event data changes—hires, transfers, promotions, separations, etc.—each day, MOD’s basic payroll and accounting systems were simply not up to the task. Stymied by challenges with point-to-point integration, inconsistent data, and a difficult reconciliation process, the systems were struggling to keep up with the company’s rapid growth and interfering with ambitious recruitment and onboarding goals. MOD’s growth and core company values were being hindered by outdated technology—involving manual data entry, a lack of integration across the company’s ERP and HR systems, and cumbersome recruiting and onboarding processes that slowed hiring, reduced productivity, and mired the crucial management of event data changes.MOD Pizza needed and effective people-centric recruiting and onboarding strategies to support the high numbers ofnew hires to match the intense growth and store openings. The company realized that a digital transformation could redefine the value of HR data and processes, putting the MOD Squad —its community of employees—at the heart of its business success.Achieving equity in hiring practices has long been a goal for both public and private-sector employers across the US, but MOD Pizza has made that goal central to their business model. While the company introduced speed, individual style, and value to a saturated market, it discovered its real secret ingredient was something else entirely. SAP’s commitment to people sustainability resonated with MOD Pizza’s core values, and the power and scalability of SAP SuccessFactors, SAP S/4HANA, and SAP BTP—along with SAP’s decades of expertise—sealed the deal.Maturing from a start up business to a larger more scalable enterprise. MOD was also looking for a vendor they trusted to help them to standardize systems and processes across the business, to remain compliant, and to establish best practices. With a lean back office team, MOD also needed an experienced, committed, ongoing partner to guarantee a successful innovation journey. The ability to rely on SAP to update its cloud-based solutions automatically with any labor law or payroll tax law changes for example means that MOD Pizza can focus on what they do best: celebrate individuality, build community and make great pizza. Partnering with SAP for their digital transformation journey also means that MOD Pizza enjoys a single vendor relationship that keeps the pizza business on track while making positive social impact across communities.Implementing scalable, cloud-based, and people-centric enterprise and HR technology was a must to maintain MOD’s mission-driven recruiting and onboarding at a pace that would support the company’s rapid growth and its dedication to making positive social impacts in the lives of its employees and the communities they serve. MOD was seeking automation and integration of key HR processes, a single source of accurate data available across the business, and a scalable technology foundation for future growth and a culture of opportunity for 10,000 employees at hundreds of locations and counting.

7. In 2015, MOD had been in business for seven years, and the company was growing fast. It was time to graduate from start-up mode and the basic, off-the-shelf payroll and accounting applications that were struggling to keep pace with the demands of a rapidly expanding business. MOD was looking for a public cloud, SaaS-model, enterprise-class system that would allow them to scale and continue to manage growth in the future. With a lean back office team, MOD also needed an experienced, committed, ongoing partner to guarantee a successful innovation journey.
