Orthopaedic Residents PGY1 Francesca (Frannie) Coxe, MD , grew up in Southern California in the small beach town of San Clemente. Frannie attended Yale University where she majored in psychology and played varsity soccer. After graduating, she completed a post- baccalaureate program at Goucher College. She earned her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medicine. For fun, Frannie enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and golf, cheering on Manchester United, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. Heather Haeberle, MD Houston, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin for her undergraduate studies, where she majored in biomedical engineering. Heather earned her medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys running outdoors, skiing, watching Texas Longhorns football, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Gregory Kazarian, MD , was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, where he majored in molecular biology. During college, he also worked in the CD Diagnostics development of the Synovasure® test, a biomarker assay for the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection. Following graduation, he spent two years performing orthopaedic research at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. Greg received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys water sports, running, skiing, and spending time with family and friends. Kyle Kunze, MD , grew up in Collings Lakes, New Jersey. He attended the University of Chicago where he received a bachelor of science degree with honors in the biological sciences and played varsity Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. In his free time, Kyle enjoys weightlifting, traveling, and cooking. Scott LaValva, MD , grew up in Bangor, Pennsylvania. As an undergraduate at Franklin & Marshall College, he studied biochemistry and played running back on the varsity football team. He received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he spent an additional year as a clinical research fellow at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He enjoys playing with his dog, pick-up basketball, and home brewing beer. Blake Meza, MD , grew up in Denville, New Jersey, and attended Georgetown University, earning a bachelor’s degree in human science. After graduation, he attended the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. There, Blake spent an additional year completing the Benjamin Fox Orthopaedic Research Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In his free time, Blake enjoys running, playing basketball, passionately cheeringon the Yankees and Georgetown Hoyas, and seeking out new cuisines and craft beer. Karthik Nathan, MD and went to college at Georgia Tech, where he studied Biomedical Engineering and German. He attended medical school at Stanford University. He played and coached club ultimate frisbee during college and medical school and is also an avid golfer and basketball and tennis player. When he’s not working, Karthik tries not to miss a single Georgia Tech football or basketball game and loves supporting his hometown Atlanta sports teams (though they tend not to love him back)! Outside of sports, he loves going to the movies, trying new restaurants and bars, and ying around the country and world to visit friends and family. Sreetha Sidharthan, MD , was born in Kerala, India, and grew up in Seattle. She attended the University of Washington and majored in biochemistry. Upon graduating, Sreetha spent two years at the National Institutes of Health managing clinical drug trials for hepatitis C treatment. She received her medical degree from David Geen School of Medicine at UCLA, during which time she spent an additional year performing research with the pediatric orthopaedic department at HSS. Outside of the hospital, Sreetha enjoys running around Central Park, traveling, exploring museums, and spending time with friends and loved ones. Alexander White, MD Summit, New Jersey and attended Delbarton School for his high school years. Alex completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in economics. While at Harvard, he was a 4-year member and USILA Scholar All-American on the men’s varsity lacrosse team. Alex completed his medical degree at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jeerson University. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, all types of exercise, playing golf and rooting for New York sports teams. Academic Year 2020–2021 Orthopaedic Residents PGY2 Alex Anatone, MD , was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. He attended Northeastern University, where hereceived his bachelor’s degree in behavioral neuroscience. Upon graduation, Alex spent one year conducting translational medical research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He then moved to New York City and received his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. In his free time, Alex enjoys cooking, skiing, woodworking and spending time with family and friends. Kathryn Barth, MD , grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. She attended the University of Pennsylvania for her undergraduate degree where she studied health and societies, concentrating in healthcare markets and nance, and was a member of the varsity soccer team. She earned her medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing and watching sports, trying dierent workout classes, and listening to true crime podcasts. Patawut Bovonratwet, MD , was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. He rst arrived in the United States to pursue a college degree at Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and completed an additional major in applied mathematics and statistics. He then enrolled in the MD program at Yale University School of Medicine. In his free time, Patawut enjoys traveling, cooking, and going on food tours with his wife. Yusef Jordan, MD , grew up in Palos Verdes, California, a small suburb outside of Los Angeles. He attended Harvard College, where he majored in neurobiology with a minor in economics. After graduating from college, he spent two years back in Los Angeles working at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and also worked as a tutor. Yusef received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, attempting to play the guitar, and spending time with friends and family. Julia Retzky, MD , grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago. She attended Northwestern University, where she studied biology and psychology and also played varsity eld hockey. After graduating from college, she spent one year as a pre-med intern at Stetson Powell Orthopedics in Los Angeles, California. She earned her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys working out, watching Northwestern sports, and trying new restaurants. Vincentius (Jeremy) Suhardi, MD, PhD , was born and raised in Surabaya, Indonesia. He attended California Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in chemistry. Afterward, Jeremy moved to Boston to join the Harvard Medical School-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Medical Scientist Training Program where he completed a PhD in medical engineering and medical physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys listening to music, playing badminton, and spending time with family. Ryan Thacher, MD , grew up in Los Angeles, California. He attended Stanford University where he majored in history and captained the varsity tennis team. After graduating, Ryan played professional tennis for a year before completing a year-long post-baccalaureate pre-medical program at Goucher College. He conducted orthopaedic trauma research at HSS prior to receiving his medical degree from Columbia University. When he’s not working, Ryan enjoys playing sports, including basketball, soccer, tennis and golf, listening to country music and exploring the NYC restaurant scene with his wife. Tyler Uppstrom, MD , was born and raised in Sutton, Massachusetts. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, where he received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and played on the club soccer team. He spent one year at HSS as a clinical research coordinator for the Pediatric Orthopaedics Department before receiving his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, basketball, and soccer, and spending time family and friends. Brian Yang, MD , was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He attended Harvard University where he majored in neurobiology with a minor in economics. After graduation, Brian spent a year break dancing in San Francisco while also performing clinical research at UCSF. He returned to Boston to earn his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and spent an additional year conducting research in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. In his free time, Brian continues to dance, enjoys playing football, and is a lifelong Michigan Wolverines fan. Academic Year 2020–2021 Orthopaedic Residents PGY3 Jennifer Bido, MD, MPH , was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Queens, New York. She attended Stanford University for her undergraduate studies, where she majored in human biology and was a member of the rugby team. After graduating, Jen spent two years working at HSS in the motion analysis laboratory. She earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and spent a year at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health obtaining an MPH. In her free time, Jen is an avid New York sports fan who loves tness classes, cooking, and traveling with her husband. Edward (Grant) Carey, MD , grew up in northern Michigan, in the small town of Higgins Lake. He attended Kalamazoo College, where he earned a double major in biology and business and played varsity basketball and soccer. Grant pursued his medical degree at the University of Michigan Medical School. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, watching University of Michigan football, and spending time with family. n the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. Chris attended Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a member of the varsity football team. After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering, he worked as a mechanical engineer for two years in his hometown. Chris went on to earn his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2018. On a free day, you may nd him out for a run, watching college football, or rooting for his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams. Ameer Elbuluk, MD , was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He attended Princeton University, where he graduated with a degree in economics and a minor in global health and health policy. He was also a member of the varsity basketball team. Ameer attended the David Geen School of Medicine at UCLA, during which he spent an additional year completing a research fellowship in the Division of Adult Reconstructive Surgery at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. In his free time, he enjoys playing and watching sports, traveling, trying new coee shops, and spending time with family and friends. Drake LeBrun, MD, MPH , grew up in Austin, Texas. He received his undergraduate degree from Rice University in biochemistry and cell biology. Upon graduating, Drake spent one year abroad researching global surgical inequities on a Watson Fellowship. He received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and earned a master in public health degree from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Drake enjoys traveling, running, and planning food tours with his wife. Nathaniel Ondeck, MD, MHS , was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and completed an additional major in biomedical engineering. He then enrolled in the MD/MHS program at the Yale School of Medicine. In his free time, Nathaniel enjoys playing soccer and spending time with his family and friends. Yuri Pompeu, MD, PhD , was born in Brazil and moved to the US to pursue a college degree. While at Murray State University, he played varsity tennis and earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Upon graduation, he went to the University of Florida where he completed his doctoral studies in enzyme engineering and immunology. Afterwards, Yuri moved to Boston and obtained his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. In his spare time, he enjoys the great outdoors, tennis, basketball, following the Florida Gators, and playing the drums. Whenever possible he travels to Florida to visit his mother and to Brazil to visit the rest of his family. Gregory Schimizzi, MD, PhD , grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina where he studied biology, chemistry, and music. Greg moved to St. Louis to join the Washington University School of Medicine Medical Scientist Training Program where he completed a PhD in molecular cell biology, as well as his medical degree. In his free time, Greg enjoys music, guitar, running, and soccer. Karim Sha, MD , was born and raised in Newark, Delaware. He attended the University of Pennsylvania where he majored in biological basis of behavior and was a member of the varsity wrestling team. He remained in Philadelphia to complete his medical degree at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jeerson University. Outside of medicine, Karim enjoys mixed martial arts (MMA) and lifting weights, cooking, and listening to a wide array of music, from classical to electronic. Academic Year 2020–2021 Orthopaedic Residents PGY4 Yianni Apostolakos, MD , is originally from Rochester, New York. He attended the University of Connecticut as an undergraduate and competed on the football team during his four years before matriculating into medical school. Yianni is an avid sports fan and grew up watching the Bualo Bills and Bualo Sabres. He and his wife welcomed their rst daughter this past winter. The family enjoys walks in Central Park, trying dierent restaurants throughout the city, and traveling. Lauren Barber, MD , was born and raised in Mequon, Wisconsin. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College in molecular and cellular biology with a minor in history of science. While in college, Lauren threw shot put, discus, hammer, and weight for the varsity track and eld team and wrote her senior thesis on osteogenesis imperfecta. Lauren earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, where she continued researching osteogenesis imperfecta during a year-long fellowship at the NIH. Lauren enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing the classical double bass, and watching the Green Bay Packers. Christopher Brusalis, MD , was born and raised in Long Island, New York. He completed his undergraduate education at Yale University where he majored in history and molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Upon graduating, Christopher spent two years working as an HIV counselor and researcher in New York City. He then received his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Christopher enjoys watching and playing basketball, traveling, and trying new restaurants with his wife. Daniel Driscoll, MD , was raised in a suburb of Bualo, New York. He attended Harvard College where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in human evolutionary biology and was a four-year member of the varsity football team. Daniel continued his studies at Harvard Medical School, where he earned his medical degree. In his free time, Dan enjoys traveling abroad, lifting weights, and cooking. Bridget Ellsworth, MD , is originally from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Bridget attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in the biological basis of behavior and played on the softball team. She stayed at Penn for medical school and decided to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery because she enjoyed the diversity of cases and patient population. In her free time, Bridget likes to run, try new restaurants, play sports, watch the Cubs win, and spend time with family and friends. Mark Langhans, MD, PhD , was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he completed a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry. Mark continued his studies at the University of Pittsburgh in the Medical Scientist Training Program where he earned a PhD in molecular genetics and developmental biology as well as his medical degree. Mark enjoys skiing, working out, and trying new restaurants. He is an avid Notre Dame and Pittsburgh sports fan. Kyle Morse, MD , graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He subsequently nished a post-baccalaureate program at Columbia University and completed medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College. He enjoys skiing, automobile racing, soccer, and photography. Tony Shen, MD , grew up in Naperville, Illinois. He attended Harvard College where he graduated with a degree in neurobiology and a minor in East Asian studies. He then attended Washington University in St. Louis where he earned his medical degree. In his free time, Tony enjoys tennis, basketball, BrazilianJiu-jitsu, hiking, cooking, eating, and spending time with his wife. Joshua Wright-Chisem, MD , was born and raised in Chicago. He attended Morehouse College where he received his bachelor of arts in Spanish and was captain of the varsity baseball team. He attended medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. For fun, Josh loves playing basketball, traveling, and working with kids. He and his wife are enjoying their adventures in New York! Matt majored in pre-medical studies and economics at the University of Notre Dame and spent his junior year abroad at Oxford University. He subsequently worked for a year at a healthcare consultancy in Philadelphia and then moved to New York City for medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College. In his free time, Matt enjoys running, cycling, weight lifting, andspending time with his wife. After residency, he will complete a foot and ankle fellowship at OrthoCarolina. Aleksey Dvorzhinskiy, MD , was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and moved to New Jersey when he was 3 years old. He attended the University of Delaware, where he majored in biology and minored in Spanish. He continued his studies at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he received his medical degree. He enjoys playing blues guitar, snowboarding and exploring New York City. After residency, he will complete a trauma fellowship at Harborview Medical Center. Claire Eliasberg, MD , was born in New York, but grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and San Diego, California. She attended Yale University where she majored in the history of science and medicine. She was also the captain of the lacrosse team. She received her medical degree from David Geen School of Medicine at UCLA. Claire enjoys water sports, skiing, hiking, running, spending time with her friends and family, and trying new restaurants with her husband. Yannick Goeb, MD , was born in Kiel, Germany and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He studied physiology at UCLA before completing medical school at Stanford University. In his free time, Yannick enjoys playing basketball, traveling, and cheering on his hometown sports teams. Yannick’s academic interests include periprosthetic fracture and the biomechanics of hip and knee arthroplasty. After residency, he will complete an arthroplasty fellowship at the University of California San Diego. Jensen Henry, MD , was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from Miami University in Ohio, where she majored in zoology and was a member of the women’s varsity swim team. Jensen attended New York University for medical school, during which she spent an additional year performing research in spinal deformity at the Hospital for Joint Diseases. At HSS, her research focused on foot and ankle patient outcomes and biomechanics. Outside the hospital, Jensen and her husband enjoy travel, cooking and cuisine, and supporting the Nebraska Cornhuskers. After residency, she will remain at HSS for a foot and ankle fellowship. Evan James, MD , grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and studied biology at the University of Notre Dame. After college, he returned home to atten

Between his second and third years of medical school, Evan completed a year of sports medicine research at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. He is joined in New York City by his wife, daughter, and dog. Evan enjoys running, golng, and playing guitar. He will stay at HSS for a fellowship in sports medicine. Cynthia Kahlenberg, MD , was born in Boston and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. She attended Dartmouth College, where she majored in history and was a member of the Dartmouth Ski Patrol. Prior to medical school, she worked for one year as a research assistant for the HSS arthroplasty registries. She completed her medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys running, baking, skiing, traveling, and spending time with her husband and son. Cynthia will stay at HSS for a fellowship in arthroplasty. Kenneth Lin, MD , is a Northern California native who attended undergrad at MIT and medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. His hobbies and interests include baseball, basketball, ball sports in general, outdoor activities, and traveling. After residency, he will complete a sports medicine fellowship at Stanford. Francis Lovecchio, MD , grew up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He entered the BA/MD Honors Program in medical education at Northwestern University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature. In the year before entering medical school, Francis completed a US Fulbright Grant as an English teaching assistant in Madrid, Spain. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing jazz saxophone, slalom waterskiing, and soccer. He will complete a spine fellowship at HSS after graduation. Ajay Premkumar, MD, MPH , was born in New York City and grew up in the Washington, DC area. After high school, he moved south to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia to complete his undergraduate studies. Subsequently, Ajay spent nearly a year living just outside Quito, Ecuador in a town called Cumbaya, on a Rotary International scholarship. Ajay returned to Atlanta to complete an MD/MPH program at Emory. Ajay and his wife enjoy living in New York with their daughter and their 70 lb. dog. Ajay will stay at HSS for a fellowship in adult reconstruction and joint replacement. Andre Samuel, MD , was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration with majors in economics and nance and minors in biochemistry and mathematics as part of the Baylor Business Fellows program. He attended medical school at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, where he spent one scholarly year pursuing a clinical research fellowship studying outcomes after orthopaedic trauma with Dr. Jonathan Grauer. He spends his free time running or working out, enjoying the outdoors, traveling, and learning to cook. After residency, Andre will complete a spine fellowship at the Rothman Institute. Frannie attended Yale University where she majored in psychology and played varsity soccer. After graduating, she completed a post-baccalaureate program at Goucher College. She earned her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medicine. For fun, Frannie enjoys playing soccer, basketball, and golf, cheering on Manchester United, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family. Heather Haeberle, MD, was born and raised in Houston, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin for her undergraduate studies, where she majored in biomedical engineering. Heather earned her medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. Gregory Kazarian, MD, was born and raised in Worcester, Massachusetts. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, where he majored in molecular biology. During college, he also worked in the CD Diagnostics laboratory, where he assisted in the research and development of the Synovasure® test, a biomarker assay for the diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection. Following graduation, he spent two years performing orthopaedic research at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia. Greg received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys water sports, running, skiing, and spending time with family and friends. Kyle Kunze, MD, grew up in Collings Lakes, New Jersey. He attended the University of Chicago where he received a bachelor of science degree with honors in the biological sciences and played varsity football. As an undergraduate at Franklin & Marshall College, he studied biochemistry and played running back on the varsity football team. Karthik Nathan, MD, grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and went to college at Georgia Tech, where he studied Biomedical Engineering and German. He attended medical school at Stanford University. He played and coached club ultimate frisbee during college and medical school and is also an avid golfer and basketball and tennis player. When he’s not working, Karthik tries not to miss a single Georgia Tech football or basketball game and loves supporting his hometown Atlanta sports teams (though they tend not to love him back)! Outside of sports, he loves going to the movies, trying new restaurants and bars, and ying around the country and world to visit friends and family. Sreetha Sidharthan, MD, was born in Kerala, India, and grew up in Seattle. She attended the University of Washington and majored in biochemistry. Upon graduating, Sreetha spent two years at the National Institutes of Health managing clinical drug trials for hepatitis C treatment. She received her medical degree from David Geen School of Medicine at UCLA, during which time she spent an additional year performing research with the pediatric orthopaedic department at HSS. Patawut Bovonratwet, MD, was born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. Yusef Jordan, MD, grew up in Palos Verdes, California, a small suburb outside of Los Angeles. He attended Harvard College, where he majored in neurobiology with a minor in economics. After graduating from college, he spent two years back in Los Angeles working at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and also worked as a tutor. Yusef received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, attempting to play the guitar, and spending time with friends and family. Julia Retzky, MD, grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago. She attended Northwestern University, where she studied biology and psychology and also played varsity eld hockey. After graduating from college, she spent one year as a pre-med intern at Stetson Powell Orthopedics in Los Angeles, California. She earned her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In her free time, she enjoys working out, watching Northwestern sports, and trying new restaurants. Vincentius (Jeremy) Suhardi, MD, PhD, was born and raised in Surabaya, Indonesia. He attended California Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in chemistry. Afterward, Jeremy moved to Boston to join the Harvard Medical School-Massachusetts Institute of Technology Medical Scientist Training Program where he completed a PhD in medical engineering and medical physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In his free time, Jeremy enjoys listening to music, playing badminton, and spending time with family. Ryan Thacher, MD, grew up in Los Angeles, California. He attended Stanford University where he majored in history and captained the varsity tennis team. After graduating, Ryan played professional tennis for a year before completing a year-long post-baccalaureate pre-medical program at Goucher College. He conducted orthopaedic trauma research at HSS prior to receiving his medical degree from Columbia University. Tyler Uppstrom, MD, was born and raised in Sutton, Massachusetts. He attended Harvard University where he majored in neurobiology with a minor in economics. After graduation, Brian spent a year break dancing in San Francisco while also performing clinical research at UCSF. He returned to Boston to earn his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and spent an additional year conducting research in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. Edward (Grant) Carey, MD, grew up in northern Michigan, in the small town of Higgins Lake. He attended Kalamazoo College, where he earned a double major in biology and business and played varsity basketball and soccer. Christopher DeFrancesco, MD, grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. Chris attended Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a member of the varsity football team. After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering, he worked as a mechanical engineer for two years in his hometown. Chris went on to earn his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 2018. On a free day, you may nd him out for a run, watching college football, or rooting for his favorite Pittsburgh sports teams. Ameer Elbuluk, MD, was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He attended Princeton University, where he graduated with a degree in economics and a minor in global health and health policy. He was also a member of the varsity basketball team. Ameer attended the David Geen School of Medicine at UCLA, during which he spent an additional year completing a research fellowship in the Division of Adult Reconstructive Surgery at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. Yuri Pompeu, MD, PhD, was born in Brazil and moved to the US to pursue a college degree. While at Murray State University, he played varsity tennis and earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry. Upon graduation, he went to the University of Florida where he completed his doctoral studies in enzyme engineering and immunology. Afterwards, Yuri moved to Boston and obtained his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. In his spare time, he enjoys the great outdoors, tennis, basketball, following the Florida Gators, and playing the drums. He attended the University of Connecticut as an undergraduate and competed on the football team during his four years before matriculating into medical school. Yianni is an avid sports fan and grew up watching the Bualo Bills and Bualo Sabres. He and his wife welcomed their rst daughter this past winter. The family enjoys walks in Central Park, trying dierent restaurants throughout the city, and traveling. Lauren Barber, MD, was born and raised in Mequon, Wisconsin. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard College in molecular and cellular biology with a minor in history of science. While in college, Lauren threw shot put, discus, hammer, and weight for the varsity track and eld team and wrote her senior thesis on osteogenesis imperfecta. Lauren earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, where she continued researching osteogenesis imperfecta during a year-long fellowship at the NIH. Lauren enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing the classical double bass, and watching the Green Bay Packers. Christopher Brusalis, MD, was born and raised in Long Island, New York. He completed his undergraduate education at Yale University where he majored in history and molecular biophysics and biochemistry. Upon graduating, Christopher spent two years working as an HIV counselor and researcher in New York City. Aleksey Dvorzhinskiy, MD, was born in St. Petersburg,Russia, and moved to New Jersey when he was 3 years old. He attended the University of Delaware, where he majored in biology and minored in Spanish. He continued his studies at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he received his medical degree. At HSS, her research focused on foot and ankle patient outcomes and biomechanics. Evan James, MD, grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and studied biology at the University of Notre Dame. After college, he returned home to attend medical school at the University of Minnesota. Between his second and third years of medical school, Evan completed a year of sports medicine research at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. Cynthia Kahlenberg, MD, was born in Boston and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. She attended Dartmouth College, where she majored in history and was a member of the Dartmouth Ski Patrol. Prior to medical school, she worked for one year as a research assistant for the HSS arthroplasty registries. She completed her medical degree at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Kenneth Lin, MD, is a Northern California native who attended undergrad at MIT and medical school at Washington University in St. Louis. His hobbies and interests include baseball, basketball, ball sports in general, outdoor activities, and traveling. After residency, he will complete a sports medicine fellowship at Stanford. Francis Lovecchio, MD, grew up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He entered the BA/MD Honors Program in medical education at Northwestern University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature. In the year before entering medical school, Francis completed a US Fulbright Grant as an English teaching assistant in Madrid, Spain. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing jazz saxophone, slalom waterskiing, and soccer. He will complete a spine fellowship at HSS after graduation. Ajay Premkumar, MD, MPH, was born in New York City and grew up in the Washington, DC area. After high school, he moved south to Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia to complete his undergraduate studies. Subsequently, Ajay spent nearly a year living just outside Quito, Ecuador in a town called Cumbaya, on a Rotary International scholarship. Ajay returned to Atlanta to complete an MD/MPH program at Emory. Ajay and his wife enjoy living in New York with their daughter and their 70 lb. dog.
