Romans 15:4 (NKJV)

4

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

Slide3

1 Corinthians 10:11 (NKJV)

11

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

James 5:17...

17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

Cain

Slide6

Life is full of choices:

 You make good choices you live well.

 You make bad choices you live bad.

 There are many choices that we make, that will haunt us for life, yes, for life.

 Even if you repent, they will haunt you for life, those are called “consequences”

 The old “devil made me do it” excuse, is not true!

 You do what you want, and no one can force you to do anything against your will…

Slide7

The Choices of Cain

Genesis 4:1-16

Slide8

Who was Cain?

The first son of Adam and Eve

 The first man to be born naturally, and founder of the family of

Kenites

(

Kenite

is called

Kain

in the Hebrew)

 Cain means: acquisition, fabrication or possessed

 Remember in the beginning is only Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel…

 So the question is: From where did Cain took a wife?

Cain marry his sister, daughter of Adam and Eve, unto whom the Lord has said: Genesis 1:28. Eve was the mother of all the living Gen 3:20. Then we infer that she was the mother of Cain’s wife.

 God Created in the beginning only Adam and Eve. From her came all men in this life!

The Choices of Cain

Gen 4:1-16 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore

Cain

, and said, "I have acquired a man from the LORD." 2 Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but

Cain

was a tiller of the ground. 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that

Cain brought an offering

of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, 5

but He did not respect Cain and his offering

. And

Cain

was very angry

, and his countenance fell. 6 So the LORD said to

Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it." 8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that

Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. 9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?"

Slide10

Gen 4:1-16 10 And He said,

"What have you done?

The voice of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the ground. 11 So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. 12 When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth." 13 And

Cain

said to the LORD, "My punishment is greater than I can bear! 14 Surely You have driven me out this day from the face of the ground; I shall be hidden from Your face; I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond on the earth, and it will happen that anyone who finds me will kill me." 15 And the LORD said to him, "Therefore, whoever kills

Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold." And the LORD set a mark on Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him. 16 Then Cain

went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.

Slide11

Who was Cain?

The questions that many are asking is:

Why did God rejected Cain and his offering?

Was not the fruit of the ground a good thing?

Was not Cain also son of Adam and Eve like Abel?

Was not Cain offering his gift from the heart like Abel?

Did Cain not go to the field very enthusiastic to look for the fruit of the ground to offer it to the Lord too?

Does God like some people and hate others?

11

Slide12

Genesis 4:3-4 3 And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. 4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

12

Slide13

He did not sacrifice in faith,

Heb. 11:4

Will-worship is presumptuous, Col. 2:23

Shows a lack of faith in God, Matt. 15:6-9

Worshiping God without authority is vain,

Jno

. 4:23-24 (Col. 3:17)

Easter, Christmas, instruments in worship, half-hearted pretense…

God sees our worship, Gen. 4:4-5

13

Slide14

Genesis 4:5-8 5 but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. 6 So the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it." 8 Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

14

Cain Chose to

Increase His Sin

(Gen. 4:5-8)

Slide15

Sin is not forced upon us – we choose it, Gen. 4:7; Rom. 6:4-6, 12-14

The sins of Cain included:

Anger

,

Gen. 4:5 (Col. 3:8; Eph. 4:31-32)

Envy

,

Gen. 4:4-5 (Titus 3:3; Gal. 5:21)

Hate

,

1

Jno

. 3:11-12, 15

Murder

,

Gen. 4:8 (Mk. 7:20-23)

15

Cain Chose to

Increase His Sin

(Gen. 4:5-8)

Slide16

Genesis 4:9 Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is Abel your brother?" He said, "I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?"

16

Cain Chose

to Lie to God

(Gen. 4:9)

Slide17

Men try to deceive and fight against God, Heb. 4:13

We lie to God when we:

Claim to love Him but do not love our brother, 1

Jno

. 4:20

Claim to give as God has prospered us, but don’t

Claim to be His people yet live worldly

Say “I’ll do better” (repent) but keep on sinning

Sing godly sentiments but live ungodly lives

God is not mocked! Gal. 6:7-8

Liars do not escape God’s wrath, Rev. 21:8

17

Cain Chose

to Lie to God

(Gen. 4:9)

Slide18

Genesis 4:16 16 Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden.

Cain Chose

to Leave the

Presence of God

(Gen. 4:16)

Slide19

He chose sin instead of repentance, 4:7-8

Sin is ready to lunge upon us, capture, control and devour us, 1 Pet. 5:8

God brings sinners under punishment, Gen. 4:10-12; Rom. 1:18; 2:5

.

Cain: No longer succeed as a farmer and banished to a life of wandering

Cain had no sorrow for his sins – Only sorrow over his punishment! Gen. 4:13-14

Yet, God showed mercy, Gen. 4:15 (cf. us, 2 Pet. 3:9)

Cain Chose

to Leave the

Presence of God

(Gen. 4:16)

Slide20

Cain went out from the presence of the Lord

, 4:16

Sin severs fellowship with God, Isa. 59:1-2

The hardening effect of sin cannot be denied, Heb. 6:4-6; Eccl. 12:1

We must not allow sin to destroy our fellowship with God – and our souls!

20

Slide21

Thought he could

worship

God his way and be accepted

Thought he could

murder

his brother without responsibility and accountability

Thought he could lie

to God

Cain “acquired” his destiny by

choosing

to sin against God and man

What outcome are you choosing for your life?

21

Cain was Faithless:

He did not know God!

Slide22

Slide23

What Can we learn from Cain this morning?

From the Negative…

 A lot of things.

From the Positive

 NOTHING AT ALL!

Obey God and serve Him always in Sprit and in Truth!
