We used to be a destination. We’re still that, but we noticed a lot more people came in because were where they were, shopping at Dillard’s during a sale or just visiting the mall.” Thus, he says, is the power of a Memorial City address. Lampasas is a booster for the neighborhood and praises MetroNational for its pro-tenant policies and customer service. His restaurant inked a 26-year-lease with the management company, and Lampasas says it’s been a tremendous benet to his family-run Italian eatery. MEMORIALCITY.COM Ciro Lampasas. Events. Holiday Dining. | IN THIS ISSUE much more than a mall “[Chief Real Estate Ocer] Randy [Nerren] was a customer of ours, and when he knew we were looking for new space, he said, ‘let me show you some stu. Our lease is about a long-term relationship here and he was instrumental in helping with that.” Long-term ties are important to Lampasas, and it’s obvious the neighborhood reciprocates. Stop by any day of the week, and you’ll nd diners stopping to say hello to Lampasas. They not only know him, he knows them, and takes an interest in their lives and families; his restaurant is the sort of place where everyone knows everyone, and “welcome” means something more than just a slogan on a mat at the door. Lampasas feels his Memorial ties run deeply, recalling working at the raquet club, and attending local schools. For him to come home, metaphorically and literally, to open a business not only seemed like a great idea, it was an opportunity for him to share with his neighbors what he could do. Now, even though the restaurant has newer digs than the Campbell Road locale, Lampasas’ roots are still a part of the operation. “When we rst opened, I’d say 80 percent of the menu was from my grandmother Margaret’s recipes. She an

d her sister Frances and Grace were with us in the kitchen when we opened, helping us roll meatballs and showing us how to make things. Twenty-nine years later, half the menu is still those family dishes.” It’s that kind of comfort food and family ties that have made the restaurant a beloved institution in the Memorial City area. The fried calamari is a favorite; so is the rotisserie chicken and the fried artichoke. Lampasas says that the Spinach Linguine Gina is also popular with diners, done with prosciutto-wrapped grilled shrimp and served in a vodka-tomato-cream sauce. “MY WIFE, KIM, AND I MADE A DECISION THAT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE A BUSINESS HERE, AND THAT WE’D STAY HERE AND RAISE OUR FAMILY HERE.” “Our three children all went to school here, we’ve been church-goers at St. Cecilia’s and Memorial Drive Presbyterian. We’ve been sponsors of sports teams and high school dance clubs. This area has been great to us all these years. And this is where we are.” Located at 9755 Katy Freeway. | ciros.com much more than a mall MEMORIALCITY.COM \r \t\t \f\t \n€€\t\n \n \t At Memorial City, we say we’re much more than a mall. And we are – we are a true center of community life for the Memorial area and the City of Houston itself. Every month, we host events that bring attention to important causes, parties to bring people together to celebrate holidays and community outreach that strengthens our city. \f \n\t\b \f \n\t\b\r ‚\t\nƒ\t\t\n\t\t In a month-long partnership with 104.1 KRBE, Memorial City collected donations of bras at four locations inside the mall throughout October. By the end of the month, more than 1,300 had been donated, and in celebration, a ve-story Bra Wall of Hope was raised on October 29 in front of the mall. The day-long event brought awareness to breast cancer and featured the KRBE Street Team and representatives from the Susan G. Komen Foundation. \r\t\r\f „\t„\t\t The October 28 Live at Gateway event took on an Oktoberfest theme and a German avor. Memorial Hermann Memorial City presented a choreographed Pink Glove Dance, Innite Groove provided the music, and Gateway Memorial City restaurants donated free light bites to the party. The evening was capped o with the ceremonial lighting of the Tower in pink lights by breast cancer survivor Donna Vallone. In fact, all of Memorial City was illuminated in pink for this memorable night. \n \f\t\b \t \n\t\t\t\t\n\t On Saturday, October 31, the Memorial City Monster Mash Halloween Spectacular sponsored by Children’s Memorial Hermann took over the mall! More than 6,000 people attended and over one thousand pounds of candy were given out to trick-or-treaters by 28 participating retailers. There was also a Beetlejuice DJ at the Fireplace, a Disney Store crafts table, and a recreation of the iconic “Thriller” with a dance-along. \n\t\b\t\r\f \t\n\t \n\f The Design Antiques Show Houston made 2 acres of white tents at the corner of Gessner and I-10 its stylish home from November 5 – 8. Over the course of the three day weekend, more than 5,000 shoppers attended DASH, buying specialty items like cowhide gun cases from MetroRetro, Bella’s Hand- Poured Candles in a variety of containers, and rose-cut diamonds and gorgeous sophisticated jewelry from Gelines Jewelry. “DASH had something for everyone in all price ranges,” said co-owner Vanessa Sendukas. “Our primary aesthetic is beautiful, aordable design.” MEMORIALCITY.COM much more than a mal
