School Based Mental Health and Substance Abuse Consortium

The School-Based Mental Health and Substance Abuse Consortium (SBMHSA Consortium) was formed in response to a request for proposals from the Mental Health Commission of Canada in 2009. 40 leading researchers and practitioners from across the country were assembled to create and implement the proposal. As successful recipients of this MHCC contract, a core team of 15 members was selected to carry out the four main aspects of the project.

Our Teams:Review Team (Lead, Dr. Charles Ungerleider, DIRECTIONS Evidence & Policy Research Group)This team will conduct a systematic review of the scientific literature related to SBMHSA.Survey Team (Lead, Dr. Charles Ungerleider, DIRECTIONS EPRG)This team will create and administer a national survey related to implementation issues involved in SBMHSA.Scan Team (Lead, Dr. Ian Manion, Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health)This team will conduct a national scan of SBMHSA programs and models currently in use in Canadian schools.Knowledge Translation and Exchange Team (Lead, Dr. Kathy Short, E-BEST, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board)This team will create ways to share knowledge gathered through Consortium work with key stakeholders, and will help MHCC to stimulate further action in this area.

Findings will begin to be released in Winter 2011.Get Involved!Do you know of a promising or proven program that is currently being used in a Canadian school district?
