Cholera in Borno
In Nigeria, the first series of cholera outbreak was reported between 1971 and reintroduced in 1990.
Three major outbreaks reported between 1992 and 1997. Worst hit then was Northern Nigeria. CFR was 5.3-13% across all age groups
In the last quarter of 2009, it was speculated that more than 260 people died of cholera in four Northern states with over 96 people in Maiduguri,
Biu
,
Gwoza
,
Dikwa
and Jere council areas of Borno state
In 2010, outbreak reported in Borno recorded 6818 cases.
Though a seasonal disease, infections have been reported in both rainy and dry seasons in Borno state.
