Get to know your track director and instructors Data Sciences Sudarshan Srirangapatanam, BA, MD Class 2024 (Statistics, Medicine) I am Sudarshan and I recently graduated from UC Berkeley where I studied biology. I am also interested in technology, computer science and statistics. Over the past year I have been working in both research and clinical settings at UCSF where I have applied my background and continue to do so. I will soon be joining MD class of 2024! I enjoy teaching for a co uple reasons: the first and foremost being the sharing aspect of teaching where I am sharing the knowledge I have gained especially with future generations who will guide us not too far from now. Another reason I love teaching is the interactions I have wi th students which brings out their fresh and new perspectives at the same level as them when it comes to learning. Health sciences classes will focus on understanding the human body and the field of precision and preventative medicine. In the former class es the students will learn the foundation of health sciences, the human, and the latter part of the classes I will focus on two aspects of medicine that have gained more traction in recent years and how it relates to availability of data. My classes in da ta sciences directly address the statistics involved in data science and the application of tools to analyze data. I will be focusing on using COVID - 19 datasets for analysis and the students will be coding their analysis for easy reproduction. This way the y learn another important tool in data analysis of 21st century programming. Putu Ustriyana, DDS, PhD (Environmental Sciences, Public Health): My name is Putu Ustriyana and I am a scientist at UCSF. It has been a wonderful experience teaching Troop 200 Environmental Science and Public Health merit badges since we started sheltering - in - place. I look forward to using an integrated approach of Environmental Science to connect different subjects in the Earth Sciences Track. The interdisciplinary field of Environmental Science offers a general perspective of the Earth system and how its components interact with each other. I am excited to meet with inquisitive and bright students, listen to their ingenious ideas, and work with them on their original and cr eative solutions to the current environment - related issues. Natalya Foreman, BA Candidate (Scholarship, Public Speaking, Reading, Medicine) My name is Natalya Foreman and I am a rising senior at UC Berkeley studying Integrative Human Biology with

a mi nor in French. My passion for education began when I was in my second year of college teaching public health and advocacy to students from underserved high schools in Berkeley and Oakland through the CHAMPS program at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakla nd. Since then, I have continued to pursue opportunities that traverse the fine line between social justice, public health, science, and medicine, but my passion for education and mentorship has remained a core principle of my work. In addition to doing re search UCSF, I also work as the student coordinator of a campus organization called Health Service Internship (HSI) that places students in service - learning internships across the Bay Area. I strongly believe in the power of mentorship as a means of growt h and encouraging perseverance in students. A valuable piece of advice that I received from a mentor once was to “pull as you climb” in your career, so as a queer first - gen college student I look forward to programs like this that allow me to not only give back to high school students but also to learn from their unique perspectives, thoughts, and values. In this program, I see the potential to help students build confidence in their scholarly skills which can be applied in every aspect of their lives. I lo ok forward to being able to learn, listen, reflect, explore, and grow just as much as I look forward to teaching in the coming days! Chris Wikler, BS (Political Science and International Relations): I am a District Representative for Contra Costa County Supervisor Karen Mitchoff. The classes that I will teach, relative to American government and International relations, are core to the discipline of political science and offer many essential case st udies to understand this field of study. The classes will emphasize on understanding and interrogating our core civic institutions (from local government, to our justice system, to the global system of economics and diplomatic cooperation); identifying cra cks/weaknesses within said institutions; and thinking creatively about how policy and our politics might be a balm to heal these cracks and open opportunities for a more egalitarian & equitable systems. Personal: I also am an ASM in Troop 200, and Vigil Ad visor for Ut In Selica Lodge. I am a lifelong California/Bay Area resident, save for a 5 year stint in Boston. While there, I attended Tufts University, studying Political Science and International Relations. Upon graduating, I managed a District Attorney campaign in Middlesex County.
