slide14. 14 AYURVEDA FOR PLANET When you say “Ayurveda for Planetary Health,” it brings together two interconnected ideas:-

Ayurveda: A 5,000-year-old Indian system of holistic medicine emphasizing balance between body, mind, spirit, and environment.

Planetary Health: A modern framework that links human well-being with the health of Earth’s natural systems.
slide15. 15 How Ayurveda Relates to Planetary Health:-

(1) Interconnectedness (Loka–Purusha Samya)

यावन्तः हि लोके भावविशेषाः तावन्तः पुरुषे।
यावन्तः पुरुषे तावन्तः लोके।
(च० शा० – 5/3)

Ayurveda teaches that the human body (purusha) is a microcosm of the universe (loka). The same five elements (earth, water, fire, air, ether) exist in both. This mirrors the planetary health principle that human well-being cannot be separated from ecological well-being.

(2) Diet & Sustainable Food Systems

Ayurveda promotes seasonal, locally grown, plant-based diets → supports biodiversity and reduces carbon footprint.
Mindful consumption (no over-eating, no waste) aligns with sustainable food practices.
slide16. 16 (3) Medicinal Plants & Biodiversity
Ayurvedic medicine depends on rich biodiversity. Protecting forests, soils, and water is essential both for traditional medicine and planetary health.
Encourages cultivation of medicinal plants, organic farming, and preservation of traditional ecological knowledge.

(4) Lifestyle & Minimalism
Dinacharya (daily routine) and Ritucharya (seasonal routine) promote harmony with natural cycles (circadian rhythm, seasonal changes).
Simplicity, balance, and reduced material consumption lessen stress on planetary resources.

(5) Preventive Health = Reduced Healthcare Burden Ayurveda emphasizes prevention through diet, yoga, meditation, and detox practices. This not only benefits individuals but also lowers the energy/resource demand of high-tech,
resource-heavy modern healthcare.

(6) Environmental Ethics (Prakriti & Dharma) Living in accordance with dharma includes respecting nature. Polluting air, water, and soil disrupts
both planetary health and human dosha balance.
slide17. A Holistic approach is a way of understanding or treating a complex system , like a person or a organization by considering all of its interconnected parts and their relationship, rather than just focusing on isolated components or symptoms. The holistic approach of Ayurveda integrates body–mind–spirit health, ethical living, and harmony with nature. It sees wellness not as absence of disease, but as a state of complete balance within the individual, society, and the environment HOLISTIC APPROACH OF AYURVEDA
slide18. Holistic View of the Individual Body (Sharira): Maintained by diet, exercise, detox, rejuvenation. Mind (Manas): Balanced through meditation, yoga, ethics, and sattvic living. Spirit (Atman): Cultivated through self-awareness, dharma, and spiritual practices. Prevention & Promotion: More focus on maintaining balance and preventing disease than only treating symptoms.
slide19. Human life and the planet are deeply interdependent. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the shelter we build all come directly from nature. When the planet is healthy—with clean air, fertile soil, abundant biodiversity, and balanced climates—people thrive.

On the other hand, when natural systems are harmed through pollution, deforestation, or climate change, human health and survival are immediately affected. Rising temperatures bring diseases, degraded soil reduces food security, and polluted water threatens life.

This interconnection shows that caring for the planet is the same as caring for ourselves. Sustainable living, responsible consumption, and respect for natural cycles ensure that both people and the planet can flourish together. CONCLUSION
