This means that it's time for you to prepare for your exam. This PowerPoint will go through:
1. The format of the exam
2. Review
3. How to prepare for the exam 2<br>
slide3. Exam! The exam is scheduled for Thursday, August 12th at 4:15PM EST on Blackboard.
You have two (2) hours to write the exam.
Your exam is worth 25% of your final grade.
You can use a dictionary, a thesaurus and your course materials for the exam.
You should type and submit your exam to Blackboard as a Word document (or similar). Don't submit as Mac Pages. 3<br>
slide4. More Details on Format of the Exam The exam will appear in your Assignments folder starting at 4:15 P.M. on Thursday, August 12. If you don’t see it please email me immediately.
Once you begin the exam you must finish and submit it.
I will not accept late exams.
The exam should be submitted to Blackboard. Do not email your exam to me.
If you foresee a personal or academic conflict for the time of the exam, please let me know immediately so that we can develop an alternative plan.
If you have technical difficulties on the day of the exam, email me immediately so that we can develop an alternative plan. 4<br>
slide5. As stated in Slide #3, you can use a dictionary, a thesaurus and your course materials (the PowerPoints, and readings I provided on Blackboard).
You cannot use outside sources. This includes materials or input from friends or family, discussions on WhatsApp groups, materials from the internet, spinning tools, or any other source outside of course material that you did not develop yourself. Any violations of these expectations will be submitted to the Academic Integrity Committee for review. What's Allowed? 5<br>
slide6. When Do I Know My Grade? After you write the exam, I am going to hide the "Exam" column and the "Total Grade" column in your Grade Book.
You will not see your exam or receive comments on your exam after you have written it.
I will grade your exam and determine your final grade.
This is the standard process for English and Liberal Studies. 6<br>
slide7. What's On the Exam? 7 The exam short answer. It will include five short answer questions (approx. 300-350 words per question).
The exam will cover themes, ideas, politics, etc. of the films, readings, and conversations from the course.
It will ask that you analyze a few of the films we examined in this course.<br>

The current discussion of world cinema or new world cinema begins in the 1980s when changes to the geopolitical climate affected filmmaking (ie. globalization, new technologies, world politics)

slide10. What is German Expressionism? • An artistic movement or genre that originated in Europe
• The artists who established the important aesthetic trends
of the movement lived or worked in Germany at the height
of the period hence we refer to it as German Expressionism
• A rejection of Western conventions
• A depiction of reality in a distorted and emotional form
• Artists were interested in evoking emotions more than
producing realistic art
• A movement in art, architecture, film, and theatre 10<br>
slide11. What is Italian Neorealism? The term Neorealismo, directly translates to “new reality” or “new realism.” It emerged during World War II in Italy.
Neorealismo signified a trend in art and film that aimed to provide insight into the contemporary Italian society of the 1940’s. The films associated with Italian Neorealism are focused on showing Italy removed from Fascist influence.
Italian Neorealism is regarded as the beginning of the Golden Era of Italian cinema.<br>

The movement aimed to give directors full creative control over their work
It has been considered to be one of the most influential in cinematic history
It began with a group of film critics who wrote for a French film journal called Cahiers du Cinema
It began as a movement against the traditional path that French Cinema followed<br>

The factors leading to the rise of the New Wave in Iran were, in part, due to the intellectual and political movements of the time.
Iranian New Wave films shared some characteristics with the European art films of the period, in particular Italian Neorealism (Wikipedia)
