4. CablesLeakage of water into the pumptop can occur through a damaged /cut cableRemember to move the seal sleeve to a new position on the cable to get sufficient compression of the outer cable sheathReplace cable seals at service, check spare part list for part number(Link)Earth core should be longer than the phase coresNever lift or drag the pump with the cable

5. Cables – Max lengthA = Area of the cable coreI = Nominal current rated voltage on pumpU = Rated VoltageMax length 3 phase = U x A IMax length 1 phase = 0,9 x U x A IYou can also check pump hand book (page 77,78)

6. Oil chamberThe oil chamber should be completely filled with oil in order to ensure that the seal rings always are cooled/lubricated.The pressure equalizer in the oil compartment will be compressed when the oil expands due to the temperature riseAlways replace pressure equalizer at serviceOil mixed with water has a milky greyish color, clean oil is clearSmall volume of water in the oil is okOil plugOil chamber

7. Inspection chamberThe inspection chamber between the oil housing and the motor should be dryWater or large amounts of oil indicates seal failureRecommendation: Inspection: Twice a year or every 2,000 hours. Major overhaul: Every year, under normal operating conditions.Example: Running time 8 hours , 7 days a week means that 2000 hours is reached after approx. 8 months.Inspection plugInspection chamber

9. Mechanical Seals – 17mmAssembly instruction for mechanical seal unit Oil on O-ring, Wash shaft end with industrial alcohol and add a little water on the shaft end before assembly of the seal unit. (Important: DO NOT USE OIL ON THE SHAFT)Mount the seal unit on the shaft & push on the V-ring (V-profile towards the seal unit). Test the seal assembly by turning the shaft to ensure that the spring inside the seal unit is rotating along with the shaft.Oil on O-rings, Mount the oil housing cover17mm (# 5172850): Minex, Minette, Salvador Play video

10. Mechanical Seals – 20/30/35 mm Assembly instruction for mechanical seal unitOil on the O-ring. Grease on the Shaft.Assembly of seal unit. Index mark on seal in line with a groove on the shaft. Push or slide down the seal unit with a seal assembly tool. Oil on the O-ring, Mount the circlip (sharp edge towards the impeller) with the seal assembly tool and make sure the circlip is secured. Grease between the protection sleeve and the impeller.123420mm (p/n 5176051): Minor, Major, Senior, Sandy 25mm (p/n 5175551): Master 35mm (p/n 5174551): Matador Play video

11. Mechanical Seals – 20/25/35 mm The cartridge seal is one unit and includes:Outer seal between the water and the oil housingInner seal between the oil housing and the inspection chamberO-rings sealing against shaft, oil housing, oil housing coverNew sturdier design from may 2013 where plastic housing has been replaced with aluminium and stainless steel parts towards the pumped media

12. MMMS – Start relay – single phaseStart relayMotorswitchWHBNBK

13. Start relay – single phaseSNT Start RelayA single phase motor needs a capacitor to generate a rotating magnetic fluxThe run capacitor is always connectedThe start capacitor increases the starting torque and is connected only when the pump is starting If the motor has not reached the required speed within 2 seconds, the relay shuts off the pump. Then the pump needs to be restarted manuallyThe relay can be damaged if there is a shortcut in the motor. Before replacing the relay, check the motor insulation The only way to check the relay is to connect it to a pump.(Minex, Minette, Salvador)

14. SMART – Motor protection 3 phaseMinex - MajorMaster, MatadorPhase sequence controlDoes not allow the pump to start if the sequence is wrongUse the phase shifter to shift two phasesPhase failure guardThe pump stops if one phase fails during operationAutomatic restart when all three phases are live againTemperature guard Thermal contacts connected to 15 and 16The pump stops when overheated and automatically restartsOverload relay (Master & Matador)Overload relay is connected to 13 & 14 on Master & Matador. The pump stops at high amp. Manual restart by turning the power off and then on again.

15. SMART – Motor protection 3 phasePower on all phases?Phases in correct sequence?Thermal sensors?

16. Soft starter (Master & Matador)Soft StartPhase sequence controlPhase failure guard (Only during ramp-up)Temperature guard , Auto restartOver load relay, Manual Restart

17. 3-Phase: Stator leads and thermal contacts

18. Hydraulic unitHydraulic adjustmentsSuction cover in Hard iron is fixed Impeller in Hard iron is adjustable with a single adjustment screw fitted in the impeller hub.Adjustment sleeve size follows the mechanical seal size0,5mm

19. Impeller AdjustmentHow to adjust the clearance between impeller and suction coverAlign the edge of the screw with the edge of the conical sleeve so that they are flushMount the sleeve, impeller and suction cover on the pumpTurn the adjustment screw clockwise until the impeller touches the wear plate, then tighten the screw another 45 degreesLock the impeller with a screwdriver or similar to prevent rotationFit the impeller screw and tighten it xx Nm plus another 45 degrees (See manual for torque values)Check that the impeller can rotate freely (Gap 0,2 – 0,4 mm)ImportantTurn the “Allen key” counter clockwise in order to loosen the impeller from the shaft.Turn the “Allen key” clockwise when adjusting the clearance between the impeller and suction cover.

20. Checking the StatorChecking the resistanceUse an ohmmeter to check the resistance of each winding. The difference in a 3-phase stator between each winding may not exceed 5%, On 3-lead stators you measure the windings two by two.Checking the insulationUse a 500V or 1kV megger to check that the insulation between each of the windings and the ground shows full resistance/insulation (≥5MΩ).Check also insulation between each of the winding pairs. Don´t touch the pump, due to safety risk!
