Scientific Affairs
Health Care Affairs
Medical Education
AAMC headquarters
Academic Affairs
Diversity Policy and Programs

Slide19CFAS Access to AAMC Faculty Roster
CFAS reps will soon have free access to an array of data from the AAMC Faculty Roster via FAMOUS including data on:
Trends in the distribution of full-time faculty and department chairs by demographic, educational, and appointment characteristics.

AAMC Leadership Forum On Gender Harassment
The 2019 AAMC Leadership Forum, held in June, drew over 100 of academic medicine’s top leaders – including many CFAS reps – to AAMC headquarters in Washington, D.C., to discuss:
Challenges for women experiencing and reporting harassment
Institutional barriers in investigating and disciplining faculty accused of harassment
Tremendously difficult task of changing the culture and climate in academic medicine that has allowed harassment to flourish for so long
Due to its successful programming on this theme at the 2018 CFAS Spring meeting in Atlanta, CFAS has emerged as a leading AAMC voice on this topic.
Slide23AAMC National Workshop to Advance Medical Education to Combat Opioid Misuse: Working Together Across the Continuum (May 9-10, 2019)
The AAMC hosted a national workshop in May – in collaboration with the ACGME, the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), and the CDC – to bring together teams of representatives from medical schools and teaching hospitals to advance educational content related to pain and addiction within undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education.
The specific goals of this unique workshop included:
Identifying what is working well and areas for improvement
in the teaching and assessment of students, residents, fellows and/or faculty in opioid practices as well as assessment and management of pain and substance use disorders.
Serving as a
catalyst
to disseminate knowledge, resources, and organizational action across the medical education continuum.
Fostering an inclusive and mutually supportive
network of educators
across the traditionally siloed continuum of UME, GME, and CME.
CFAS societies and reps working in this field were invited to contribute to the conference
Slide24Family Medicine Breakfast Networking Group
GOAL:
Promote collaboration, communication, and scholarship within family medicine, and across disciplines and professions within CFAS and AAMC.
Objectives:
Maintain a listserv of CFAS family medicine physicians
Support networking of FM’s at CFAS and AAMC meetings
Promote FM participation in CFAS committees
Discuss priorities and topics for future CFAS and AAMC meetings
Slide25A working group of CFAS member societies representing surgical subspecialists have been meeting regularly at CFAS Networking Breakfasts over the past two years to discuss shared concerns related to issues in their fields
The groups was spearheaded by Steven Feldon, MD, chair of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester, and a CFAS rep from the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology
Their most recent project involved a survey, the findings of which are presented on the following slides
Dr. Feldon will discuss the work in greater detail during the CFAS Knowledge Sharing session on Monday afternoon, and the full slide set will be made available to CFAS reps
