Hitting Basics

Grip:

loose grip, keep bat in

the fingertips, knocking knuckles close to lined up.

Stance

:

athletic (playing defense in basketball) head center over belly button. Diagonal angle from head to hip, not straight line up and down.

Step:

stride to get energy moving forward, keeping head in the center of the

body (over the belly button),

don't collapse lower

half. Knob

of bat pointing to catcher, stays in that position through landing.

Landing:

front

foot lands on inside part of

foot. Back

knee works down,

allowing hips to rotate first

,

then the hands come through. Analogy of house (bottom half of house first then top half.)

Swing:

level path,

aim for

inside

half of softball

, barrel stays close to the shoulder then released through strike zone. Be able to see contact with the pitch

. Finish your swing fully (bat to your back).

Remember

:

stay loose and relaxed, hips and hands do the work, and stay

balanced

(after swing, batter should be steady on feet)
