CQ Spotlight: December 2021 The CQ Spotlight initiative aims to showcase stories about the impactful work that CQ Certified Facilitators do at home and abroad. The CQ Spotlight for this quarter is Ashiedu Joel! Ashiedu Joel is a strategist in inclusive leadership and engagement with over 20 years of experience across a range of sectors – corporate, academic, community voluntary, and pub lic. Ashiedu is CQ Certified, attending the CQ Certification, CQ Train - the - Trainer, and Unconscious Bias programs in 2021. Ashiedu is the Founder of Ashioma Consults, a cultural capital and inclusive leadership company. Her background is in engineering wi th doctoral research in sustainable development with an emphasis on governance and resilience. As a CQ Certified Facilitator, Ashiedu uses her knowledge and training to support community groups, businesses, statutory agencies, charities, and faith organiza tions to clarify their DEI vision, engage staff and stakeholders, plan strategically, establish accountability measures, and take action to embed inclusive practice. From Community Engagement to Inclusive Leadership Ashiedu’s desire to improve and further develop her own cultural intelligence became especially clear when she was appointed corporate engagement lead. Through her role, she interacted closely with a diverse and multicultural community. These interactions helped her better understand and respo nd to differences in cultures, values, lifestyles, and ethnic backgrounds. Cultural intelligence training informs Ashiedu’s various roles as an Elected Councillor, a Non - Executive Director, a Justice of the Peace, and an independent advocate for victims of domestic abuse. Through Ashioma Consults, Ashiedu supports clients to navigate multicultural challenges. As someone who grew up in a multicultural and traditionally diverse society, and later living, working, and traveling across Europe, she was fascinate d by the similarities and differences in languages, customs, communication, and leadership styles. As a culturally intelligent leader, she deploys her CQ when interacting and dialoguing with colleagues from across the world, learning and adapting her appro ach and language for inclusive leadership, to foster lasting professional and personal relations while enjoying the opportunity to learn and share together.
