By Amy Wall Warm - Up Story Mrs. Wishy - Washy Although, I often do this story with the actual book, I also tell the story by memory. Below is the story that I tell…my own version of the story. I have friend, her name is Mrs. Wishy - Washy. Mrs. Wishy - Washy l ives in this book (hold up the book). This book was written by an author, named Joy Cowly. Do you know what an author is? An author is someone who writes words to tell a story. We are going to find out what happens in this story. When ever you read, y ou always start from top to bottom and left to right. (I stand on my tippy - toes and stretch from top to bottom and left to right) Mrs. Wishy - Washy loves to clean and whenever she cleans she moves just like this .... (reach and pull with arms from side to si de) As she cleans she also says…Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy. Mrs. Wishy - Washy has three animals. She has a cow, She has a pig, and She has a duck. These animals looooove to get dirty. One day Mrs. Wishy - Washy called me up to go f or a walk in the park. Well we walked, and we walked, and we walked, and we walked. (Walk around…I usually exaggerate my walk and bring up my knees, telling the kids to bring their knees up high to the sky.) Mrs. Wishy - Washy decided that she was thirsty and wanted to jog back to her house. So, we jogged and we jogged, and we jogged, and we jogged. (Jog…depending on amount of room, we jog in place or we jog around in a circle) As we were jogging back to the house….we saw something. It was the cow. And h e was RUNNING to the mud puddle. He ran and he ran and he ran. (Again, running either in place or circle depending on class environment) That cow ran and he ran all the way until he got to the mud puddle. Then he jumped in the mud puddle. He jumped and he jumped and he jumped and he jumped. Mrs. Wishy - Washy was very upset!!! (Jump) The cow was covered in mud from the top of his head to the bottom of his toes. (Touch top of head and roll hands down to the your toes) All of a sudden we hear the pig an d he started RUNNING to the mud puddle. He ran and he ran and he ran and he ran. When that pig got to the mud puddle he splashed and he splashed and he splashed and he splashed. (Stomp your feet and wave your arms.) Then that pig rolled in the mud. (C ount and roll from side to side. I usually count till about 10…the kids count with me.) The pig was covered in mud from the top of his head to the bottom of his toes. (Touch top of head and roll hands down to the your toes) Now, the cow is covered in mud , and the pig is covered in mud. Mrs. Wishy - Washy is getting very upset. Then all of a sudden, we hear the duck. And that duck is very very fast. He is running to the mud - puddle. He ran and he ran and he ran and he ran. And just as he got to the mud puddle, he starts to waddle in the mud. He flaps and he flaps and he flaps and he flaps. (Flap arms and march around in circles…very similar to squauking like the turkey who doesn’t fly.) The duck was covered in mud from the top of his head to the bottom of his toes. (Touch top of head and roll hands down to the your toes) Mrs. Wishy - Washy was not only upset, but she was angry!! (Have the kids make their angry face and growl as they march) Mrs. Wishy - Washy marched right over to the cow, the pig, and the duck. She started to jump and say…”Just look at you, in the tub you go.” (Jump up and down) Well, she picked up that cow. This cow is very v ery heavy. So push up your slee ves. Bend your knees and please keep your back straight. (Squat and grunt ) Pi ck up that cow and throw him in the tub. (Squat and pick up the cow…reach over your head and do the motion like you are throwing with two hands.) And she went Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy. (Wishy - Washy movement used earlier in story, side to side) Then, she picked up the pig. The pig is even heavier than the cow. So push up your sleeves. Bend your knees and please keep your back straight. (Squat and grunt) Pick up that pig and throw him in the tub. (Squat and pick up the pig…reac h over your head and do the motion like you are throwing with two hands.) And she went Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy. (Wishy - Washy movement used earlier in story, side to side) Now it was time to pick up the duck. Well that duck is n ot very heavy, but oh my goodness, he is very very fast. So don’t let him get away….Get ready, okay…here we go. GET HIM! GET HIM! GET HIM! GET HIM! (Bend over and shuffle feet back and forth very quickly…move very fast.) Okay, we got him!!! Whew! That was hard work! Pick up that duck and throw him in the tub! (Reach over your head and do the motion like you are throwing with two hands.) And she went Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy, Wishy - Washy. (Wishy - Washy movement used earlier in story, side to side) Now, the cow is clean, the pig is clean, and the duck is clean. Mrs. Wishy - Washy is very very happy and she walk s back to the house. (walk) Just as we get back to the house, you’ll never guess what happens. The cow, the pig, and the duck are RUNNING to the mud puddle. (run) When they get to the mud puddle the jump in the mud (jump and count to 5) they splash in the mud (Stomp and move arms up and down and count to 5) , they roll in the mud (roll from side to side and count to 5) and they paddle in the mud (paddle just as you did earlier in story and count to 5) . Now the cow, the pig, and the duck are covered in mud from the top of there heads to the bottom of their toes. Mrs. Wishy - Washy stomped all the way back to the mud puddle (stomp feet) and went WISHY - WASHY, WISHY - WASHY, WISHY - WASHY, WISHY - WASHY! (Wishy - Washy movement used earlier in story, side to side) Let’s clap our hands because you all did a wonderful job exercising!!!
