Circumpolar Assessment of Organic Matter: Transcript

Decomposibility as a Control Over Potential Permafrost Carbon Loss Dr Ted Schuur Department of Biology University of Florida February 2013 CoAuthors Christina Sch ä del . Healthy soil, strong plants, healthy people. Soil . T. ypes around Brisbane. www.asris.csiro.au. . Brisbane has four main soil types:. dark . alluvial soils. deep red loamy soils. gravelly red and yellow loamy top soils over clay. Lesson two: Soils. Time to observe and learn. You will examine three types of soil:. Clay. Sand. Loam. You will need to read and follow the instructions carefully. After examining the soil types:. What are some ways we can classify soils?. Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is an important property of lake ecosystems, resulting from the decomposition of organic matter stored in soils and of plankton in the water column. Colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM), the fraction that absorbs ultraviolet (UV) and visible light, is the controlling factor for the optical properties of many surface waters. Little is known about the mechanisms by which DOM and CDOM evolve in lakes formed during glacial retreat. As part of a larger study of the ecosystems in glacial lakes, the present project examined the quality of DOM and CDOM in lakes in SW Greenland. Nine lakes in . Glomus. sp.)
