Composer: John Zdechlik was born in 1937 in Minneapolis, MN. Zdechlik played trumpet and piano in grade school. He studied Music Education at the University of Minnesota and taught for two years before returning Rough Ternary Form with a brief introduction and coda¥Introduction (Measure 1 - 21) - Andante - 4 Part Chorale Primarily homophonic. Use of a polyphonic melodic treatment at the beginning of the A sections with Fugue-like treatment of melody (measure 22 and 135). Interesting texture at 44 with with the augmented chorale statement in the woodwinds with accents in the brass using syncopation by delay. The brass accents also add to the accented eighth notes in the snare drum. At measure 111 there is more polyphonic treatment of the melodic fragments between the horn and the trumpets.Expression - The tension of the piece begins to build at measure 62 with the introduction of the Shaker melody in fragmentation, not in major, as presented up to this point, but in the parallel minor. This foreshadows the development of the minor third thematic fragment in the B section of the piece. Strategies¥!Teach melody using solfeggio introduced as part of our scale study (aural/kinesthetic)¥Function Chorale based on Shaker Melody (visual/aural)¥Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of harmonic and tonal elements.SATB116 71 71 716 71554 54 4554 45332 22 2334 231 76 54 56 51 76 51 51I IႤ7vi-7ii Vvi-7 V7I iiivi-7iv V7I¥Rhythmic improvisation based on line of the function chorale (aural/kinesthetic)¥Groups of four (or more) take turns using rhythmic improvisation on each line of the function chorale.¥Perform fragments of melody of various steps of the scale (modally)
