HEEDSTechnical Tip Controlling Minimum Variable Changesing Variable ResolutionLevel: BeginnerLast revision: 06/23/2010IntroductionDuring optimization, the values of variables are automatically hanged to create new designsIn many studies, it is HEEDS® Technical Tip Controlling Minimum Variable Change Using Variable Resolution2 &#x/MCI; 0 ;&#x/MCI; 0 ;Using the same equation, we can calculate the resolution to use for a desired step size.resolution = ( ( B A ) / stepSize ) + 1(2)Examples:1.0 variable12.0resolution = 101stepSize = 0.011.0 variable12.0resolution = 1001stepSize = 0.001Defining ariable esolution in HEEDSIn HEEDS, you define theresolution of variablethe Assemblytab. On this tab, click on the Variablesbutton in the AgentGraph, select the desired variable from the Agent Variableslist, and enter the desired value in the Resolutionfield. For example, consider the variable Thickness, shown below. The red circled area shows the field where the resolution of the variable can be changed. This value should be changed based on the results from equation (2).
