Pure peace

2As most of you have heard, Friday, December 14th, we lost 27 beautiful lives. Heroes, friends, babies, mothers, sons, and daughters were tragically lost. This was all to the credit of a heinous, despicable, and vile monster. Please everyone in your own way pray for these glorious souls. 20 of these precious lives were just babies at the tender age of six and seven. Truly keep their families and loved ones in your thoughts, hearts, and prayers. Always remember: anything can happen.

Artistic GymnasticsGymnastics is a four event sport. The events are Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise. When you compete judges give out awards for all of the events, and then they complete the All-Around. An All-Around is when judges add up your scores from the four events, and then award the people who have the highest All-Around scores. In

gymnastics, there are compulsory levels and there are also optional levels. In compulsory, every gymnast does the same routines; with the exact same skills, and on floor they have to use the exact same music. For the optional levels, there are still required skills, but there is a wider variety of skills you can do. On floor you get to pick your own music, dance, and skills. Here are some descriptions of the events: Vault:

Vault is a big table, better known as a horse that you have run down the runway hit a springboard, and do tricks over the top of it. Uneven Bars: are bars that are parallel, but on different planes. They are usually set so there is a distance of approximately six or seven feet from the high bar to the low bar. Depending on the gymnasts’ height, the setting could change. Balance Beam: The beam is a piece of wood (covered in a little padding of course) that is a little less than four inches wide. Gymnasts must perform certain tasks on the beam while of course maintaining form and

balance. Floor Exercise: The floor is a 40x40 floor with a lot of springs underneath it, and foam and carpeting on the top. Gymnasts tumble, twist, and dance, leap. And also do turns on the floor to form a routine that lasts around a minute and thirty seconds. Gymnast are incredible athletes, it is also a sport for both men and women. Be sure to see a gymnastics meet someday, they are incredibly entertaining and suspenseful! By: Katie JahnsSlide4

A true teacherTo be a teacher one must not only teach; they must be thoughtful, caring, loving, and daring. Mrs. Diane Ishmael was all of those and more. Her teaching abilities were impeccable and you truly could tell she incomprehensibly loved her job. She was spectacular at not only teaching but being a friend, a confidant, a mother, a wife, and so much more. Mrs. Ishmael tragically lost her longtime battle with cancer and will forever be missed. Please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

The following poem was written by Ms. White's Fiancé (Robert Graham) in tribute to Ms. Ishmael.

A Tribute to Diane IshmaelToday we celebrate your life; spirits soaring high.For all the lives you touched truly hard to say goodbye;But to your family we thank them in ways so true;For sharing with the world a precious gem such as you;Wonderful wife, mother, sister, mentor and friend;We know if we live a righteous life, we will see that smile again;The one that touched so many lives making cloudy skies so blue;

Teaching us to live by the sayingDo unto others as you’d have them do unto you;Those kind and caring words of wisdom that will forever last;Taking boredom out of the classroom making learning such a blast;Giving our children confidence to achieveNot be filled with failures, sorrow;

That they could be anything today;And to have bright visions for tomorrow.Teaching us all as you smile from the heavens above; that learning isn’t about money;It’s God’s gift of love; that gives the world special teachers with such a special story;We give God the praise, Mrs. Diane for your life we give Him the glory.Slide5

Apple suicide

5Apple products are used by millions of people each day, an iPhone is probably the most commonly used. Apple is a company who makes millions each year and would make you think that they had nothing less than stellar work environments. Take a look at their stores; nothing but pure perfection. But in China there is an Apple manufacturer that has shocking work conditions. The factory makes its employees work 24 hour shifts sometimes, and for the whole shift they are forced to stand up for so long that their legs swell up, and they can barely walk. Most employees have to work 7 days a week. All the employees have to live together in tiny dormitories that are very

crowded. Mail Online reports a quote from a former executive of Apple Inc. "We’re trying really hard to make things better. But most people would still be really disturbed if they saw where their iPhone comes from.”

1 The factory had so many people jumping off the building to commit suicide (about 10 people in one year) that they had to put up suicide nets. The factory has also had many explosions and dangerous toxins. In 2011 alone they had two explosions, and four deaths and injuring more than 75 people. 140 people got injured from using/being exposed to dangerous toxins that they were forced to use to clean screens. So the next time you use your iPhone just remember where it might have come from.

Snow globe

6December is filled with laughter, amazing baked goods, and memories, love, family and friends. It's a magical time of the year. Whether your lawn is covered in a blanket of snow or your palm trees are strung with beautiful lights December is a month we all remember.   While most people think December is just a Christmas season it actually includes many holidays! Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa are all a part of the season! Almost everyone celebrates at least one of these holidays.   Hanukkah is a celebration of the Jewish people's victory over Greece in 156AD. When the Jews went back to Jerusalem they went straight to the holy temple to thank and dedicate to their God. While inside they found lamp and oil to light it, but there was only enough lamp oil to last one night. Astonishingly each day the lamp was still lit. This lasted for eight whole days giving the Jewish people just enough time to find more oil. Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting a candle on a

Menorah in remembrance of each day the lantern stayed lit. The first candle is lit on the 8th and the last is lit on the 16th. Modern day tradition also has a small present given hand-in-hand with the lighting of the candle.  Christmas is arguably the most well-known holiday and is observed on the 24th. It is celebrated by many people, even if they are not Christian or religious. To some it is simply about the spirit of the holiday and to others it is has a much bigger meaning than presents. Christmas is the birth date of Jesus Christ. His virgin mother Mary rode a donkey all the way from Jerusalem to Bethlehem accompanied by his adoring mortal father Joseph. On their long journey they stopped in multiple inns along the way begging and pleading to let them stay. Each inn replied with the same answer, they were either fully booked or just did not want to take them in. Finally they found an inn that at their best let Mary and Joseph stay in their barn. Baby Jesus was born soon after on a beautiful bed of soft hay surrounded by angels, wise men, and animals. He was the joy of the world, the savior, and the Prince of Peace.  The last holiday is Kwanzaa observed on the 26th. Most people have misunderstood this holiday as a religious observation; when in fact it is much different. It is an African-American holiday to celebrate the togetherness of family. Kwanza is based upon the seven values that Rob

Karenga made in 1966 called

Nguzo Saba.  Whether your Jewish, Christian, religious or non-religious you probably celebrate one of these holidays. It may not be for the real meaning of the days but you celebrate it in your own beautiful interpretation. For whatever you celebrate, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, and Happy Kwanzaa everyone!   Love always, Brianna By: Brianna LuccianoSlide7
