Prayer

Our desire to express praise, petition and penitence to God.

Our goal should be that the will of God is done on earth. Matt. 6:10.

The Holy Spirit helps our prayers.

Rom. 8:26-27.Slide5

Postures or times

There are no specified postures or times prescribed in the Bible as a rule for us.

But various postures are noted:

Standing, sitting, upturned faces, heads bowed, eyes open, eyes closed, kneeling, raised hands, prostrate. Slide6

Jesus teaches prayer

Matt. 6:5-13; Luke 11:1-4.

Not all prayers are acceptable.

Pray in the name of (by authority of) Jesus.

John 14:13-14; 15:16; 16:24, 26.Slide7

Pray for these

Adoration and praise, Matt. 6:9.

Thanksgiving, Phil. 4:6.

Wisdom, Jas. 1:5.

Others, 1 Tim. 2:1-2.

Deliverance from temptation, Matt. 6:13.

Peace, Phil. 4:6-7.

Paul’s prayer

Eph. 3:14-21 is a great example of a prayer.

Reverence, family, petition, strength, comprehension, know the love of Christ, be full of God.

God can do much more than we ask!

To God be the glory!
