3 The Awards The Award was established in 1989 to honor an individual GRCC employee for his or her contributions to the College, higher education and the community.  Today there is a full-time faculty award, an adjunct award, and a staff award.  Each recipient of the full-time and staff award receives $1,000 and a $1,000 contribution is made to the GRCC Foundation. The recipient of the adjunct award receives $750.

4 The full-time faculty award is decided by the Office of the Provost, with the recommendation of the Excellence in Education team. The adjunct faculty award is decided by the Office of the Provost, with the recommendation of the Center for Teaching Excellence. The staff award is housed in the Staff Development office.

Purpose of today’s presentationTo share modifications to the nomination process for the full-time faculty and adjunct award

Evaluating the current process—FT award Fall 2013 – team discussions, faculty survey Faculty survey results:Those who had nominated someone said the process was cumbersome Some respondents had no idea of the criteria Those who had never nominated said it was due to lack of time 6

Current process for FT award 3 nomination letters based on Raider Values12 supporting signatures Submissions due late May, reviewed by the team, and recommendations made to the Provost 7

Goals of the committee for FT award1. Align the process with Faculty Performance Evaluation criteria2. Streamline the nomination process 3. Increase awareness about the process 8

Goal 1: Align with Faculty Evaluation 1. Teaching (innovative ideas, activities, projects, assessment methods, lecture style) 2 . College Service (committees, dept activities, presentations) 3. Professional Development (skills in their field) 4 . Student Service (organizations, advising, committees) 5 . Community Service (volunteer, leadership) 9

Goal 2: Streamline the process Utilize one nomination form, completed online (via editable .pdf), that can be shared among nominators, and scanned to the Provost Office. Change requirements for signatures Instructions and forms on the Provost website http://www.grcc.edu/excellence Also, we recommend trying a new due date of March 15, 2015, instead of late May.

The Nomination Form —FT awardCurrent: 1 nominator, 2 supporting letters Based on Raider Values (Excellence, Diversity, Responsiveness, Innovation, Sustainability, Accountability, Respect, Integrity) Proposed changes: 1 interactive .pdf form 1 nominator completes all 5 categories 1 supporting nominator (more if desired) provides additional information in any or all 5 categories

Things remaining the same Employee in good standing Employed 5 years at GRCCNot a previous winnerKeep nomination confidentialEndorsers only sign once per yearNo award selection committee members or nominators can sign

The Signatures Form —FT award Current:12 signatures: 4 within the department; 4 outside of the department; 4 others which can include retired GRCC employees or students. Proposed changes: 12 signatures: must include faculty or staff representation (current or retired) from at least two different departments. In addition, students may be included as supporters.

Goal 3: Increase Awareness TE’s Weekly Five Newsletter / FacebookProvost Office: posters for departments and CTE Faculty email from Chair of Excellence in Education Provost Newsletter Instructions on Provost website 14
