Cloud Native Definition Cloud native technologies empower organizations to build and run scalable applications in modern, dynamic environments such as public, private, and hybrid clouds. Containers, service meshes, microservices, immutable infrastructure, and declarative APIs exemplify this approach. These techniques enable loosely coupled systems that are resilient, manageable, and observable. Combined with robust automation, they allow engineers to make high-impact changes frequently and predictably with minimal toil. The Cloud Native Computing Foundation seeks to drive adoption of this paradigm by fostering and sustaining an ecosystem of open source, vendor-neutral projects. We democratize state-of-the-art patterns to make these innovations accessible for everyone. Reference to Networking: Packaging all layers of network stack software in Containers (through Kubernetes) and orchestrating infrastructure ( NFVi /ONAP) and services (VNF -> CNFs) with Kubernetes to provide cloud connectivity and container portability 10 Cloud-Native: Official definition https:// github.com /cncf/toc/blob/master/DEFINITION.md

12 LF Energy and LF Networking - Similarities -

Top 10 Challenges/Requirements in Open Sourcing Telecom Networks Established process and people mindset (Telecom is 142 year old proprietary industry) Brownfield implementation Years of legacy investment & long life solutions (10+ years) Standards dominated by Vendors Industry has always relied on standards for interop Multi-Vendor dependency but fully proprietary (black box hardware and software solutions) Architecture and Traffic pattern shifts (move to edge distribution, need real time orchestration, dynamic allocation of resources fully automated) Black box (hardware and software) proprietary solution – move to disaggregated and open Create conditions for Open Collaboration and co-opetition Education on Open including how, why and risk/benefits 13 2014

What we have learnt in last 5 years – Open Source Networking Global End User driven innovation is a must, we are not from the “ github era” AT&T, China Mobile, Vodafone, Orange etc (almost 70% global subs covered) Explain the ROI to all early in project formation ( eg 2 devs invested, get 2000 back)Lead with Harmonization message across standards and open sourceETSI, TMF, MEF, ….. Work towards creating OSS friendly IPR policiesMerge large OSS communities doing similar things (fragmentation not good)Collaborate across all participants to build OSSVendors (need to get top 10), System Integrators, End users “common plumbing” attracts the most community devs. Anchor projects (with seed Code) jump start the community. - a mustInvesting in Leadership/Foundation/Marketing is critical to sort through a noisy ecosystem14

Intersection of Energy with Cloud & Telecom Process learnings Technology dependencies 15

16 LF Energy is at the beginning of Open Source Disruption & following LF Networking journey on best practices

Session 1 – Action Learning – Step 1 Action Learning Exercise Each person takes one topic (try to distribute). Use your phones and/or computers - spend 10 minutes of self-study Use computer paper and pens on the table (or your own) to capture your learning TOPIC Virtualization Disaggregation AutomationMicroservices QUESTIONSHow would you define/describe the topic area? How would you apply to power systems? Could your building block be an issue or require special considerations for grid specific use?

Session 1 – Action Learning – Step 2 First dialogue with your table about the building blocks (20 minutes) Use what you have written to support dialogue and encourage whole table learning: Define/describe each of the terms What are the applications to power systems? Could these building blocks be an issue or require special considerations for grid specific use? For report out, what 3 key takeaways would you share with the whole group? Put them on post-it notes – one idea per post-it note (10 minutes)

Session 2 – Applied Learning – Break into Groups Topic Areas: Business Transaction Layer (facilitator - Lucian) Operational Layer (facilitator - Benoit) Grid Asset Layer (facilitator - Gabriel) Edge Layer (facilitator - Gabor) Cultural Transformation (facilitator - Shuli)

Session 2 – Applied Learning – Questions What code/modules/applications are necessary to accelerate the energy transition - either we have already, we build, and/or we leverage from other industries? Make an inventory of ideas What are you willing to commit to? (Write on a post-it note) Great ideas you will take leadership for Development Meetups Working groups you would join Resources – funding, people, information, companies, etc.
