Characteristics

Nocturnal – awake during the night and sleep during the day

Travel – they go long distances at night and bring food back in their cheeks

Solitary animals

Males have scent glands on their side

Life span 1 – 3 years, short stumpy tail, 5 – 6 inches long.Slide4

Reproduction

Females come into heat every 4 days. A Sign is increased activity. Occurs in the evening

Gestation length is 16 days

2 – 16 pups per litter, average of 6 – 8

Must be separated by sex by 5 – 6 weeks of age
