Literacy homework for week twenty - eight This week’s vocaNulary words: Sanctimonious adjective: haughty or stuck up; in a superior manner; in a way that makes a show of being better than other people My sister was sanctimonious about her excellent report card; she stuck her tongue out at me when my parents weren’t watchingB Because my grades were sort of disappointing, I didn’t dare tell on SisB Although she was sanctimonious about her perfect grades and excellen t handwriting, I knew she was really bad at sports. Incompatible adjective: unable to get along; uncooperative; mismatched Don’t wear stripes and plaid together ---- they are incompatible and make you look like a nincompoop. Certain students seem to be i ncompatible. Thus, teachers should never make them sit beside each other. This week’s conventions oNjective: Tenses of irregular verbs part 1 Shake -- shook --- have shaken Today is the day I shake hands with Santa. Yesterday I shook the E aster Bunny’s paw. I have shaken hands with the tooth fairy, the New Year’s Baby and Father Time. Eat — ate --- have eaten Let’s eat spaghetti with our hands. I ate cereal without a spoon. I have eaten salad without any utensils. Write an expository essay that explains how you do something. Be sure to start with a clear main idea; follow the main idea with at least three reasons or supporting ideas. Use transition words between the sentences to guide your reader from one thought to the next. Your ending or conclusion should sum up the argument and leave your reader with something to do or to consider. Ideas for things to write aNout if you’re stuck or otherwise flummoxed: Explain how to build something; explain how you conducted a specific science experiment; examine two different ways to solve the same math problem.
