Message From The Teacher

Reminders

Shout Outs…

OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE:Reading- Our Nonfiction unit has commenced! The students have been dying to get their hands on all the interesting texts in our classroom library. Please support your child and encourage them to bring this nonfiction text back and forth to school each day. The nightly reading homework from this point on until further notice should also be completed with a nonfiction text. Keep in mind that nonfiction texts can come from a variety of sources: magazines, newspapers, online articles or webpages, etc. If you have internet access at home wonderopolis.org is a great kid-friendly site brimming with nonfiction.Writing- Realistic Fiction has begun! This week, students employed strategies to come up with ideas for their stories. We discussed the features of nonfiction and students used observations of the world, small moments from their own lives, and thought of stories they wished existed to brainstorm. Math- Students have made a significant amount of progress in discovering and utilizing a strategy they can use to accurately solve DD X D multiplication problems. I am proud of their perseverance! Social Studies- Our Native American Unit launched this week and our classroom was transformed into a longhouse. Students from Miss Augustine’s class joined in to listen to a Seneca tale while sitting in front of a crackling fire around pelts. They were then broken up into groups to create their own story sticks using Native American symbols. Groups then told their stories to the class.

Contact the Teacher

Thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me for conferences. I hope that you feel comfortable to come to me with any questions, comments or concerns. I really believe the home-school connection is an essential part of a child’s educational success. I would also like to thank you for your patience with me as we navigate our way through the start of the Words Their Way Spelling. After having a couple of weeks under our belt, I am able to see what is working and what needs revision. That being said, I will be modifying our daily schedule. Instead of running the word lists in a Monday-Friday format, I would like to run them in a 6 day cycle. Please see the note explaining the format coming home in your child’s folder, and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
