Why IMDS Training and Consulting Is Important for Manufacturers? In the late 1990s, giant auto manufacturers like BMW and Audi introduced a system known as the International Material Data System or the more popular IMDS. This initiative was to standardize the supply chain management by centralizing and standardizing manufacturers' raw material data required for production. For auto manufacturers, this process was a welcome step as not only did it help them to comply with global regulations but helped them use the new management system to collect data, analyse them, and then report it to the regulatory authorities. IMDS also played a crucial role for manufacturers and suppliers to meet their obligations. IMDS follows the principle that if a ma nufacturer does know what the vehicle is made up of, it cannot recycle it. The comprehensive record of materials used by automakers in their production process is available through this internet - based system. The MDS is well - designed to facilitate the recy cling effort of the supply chain manufacturers. Each year approximately 25 million tons of material are sourced from old cars. The interesting part is that 80% of its components will get recycled in the long run in the vehicle we use today. Today IMDS co mpliance is compulsory for automotive industry suppliers. Auto OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) will refuse to accept any component engineering company delivered to them wit hout an IMDS number, irrespective of existing business relations. The importance of IMDS training Training is a crucial aspect of IMDS. Only through training will users be able to understand the system in depth. With hands - on experience, users can receiv e data, build it into the repository, and submit it whenever required. IMDS trained users will then understand the goal and importance of IMDS functioning. They will not only update the data in the system but also integrate with suppliers to the system. It will help to understand the requirements of their suppliers better. The training phase will have a general course flow starting from collecting data, verifying drawings to updating, and responding to customer queries. In the middle, there will be material creation and submission of MDS. There will be procedures for supplier acceptance or rejection and regulatory information management. If there are any updates necessary, then they include that in the course, as well. IMDS consulting services The followin g service in line which they provide is consultancy and advisory. Many manufacturing companies struggle to cope with IMDS services and compliance goals. They need a compliance strategy. These companies analyze the compliance request and design a roadmap to cover obligations at all levels. Whenever new regulations arrive, they perform the impact assessment. They manage the compliance platform through evaluation and selection. Suppliers can submit accurate IMDS reports with the help of consultations. The co nsultations help the supply chain to meet the obligations of IMDS. Consulting services guide the suppliers in correcting the IMDS information if they find any discrepancies. The takeaway The manufacturing sector understands the criticality of IMDS in toda y's scenario. It looks for companies that can offer IMDS system training and consultation services for data collection and management. Read More: - Conflict mineral reporting
