Milbank Memorial Fund Emerging Leaders Program Instructions for Nominators Memorial Fund is currentlyrecruiting for the fifth cohort of the Emerging Leaders Program (ELPwhich is scheduled to beginin September 2021Our goal with this program is to improve the capacity of promising public servants to lead health in their jurisdictions. You know who those people are and their potential for health policy leadershipThe deadline for nominationsfor the 2021 ELP cohortJuly , 2021 Below please find detailsabout the ELPand instructions for how to nominate a candidate Cindy Chen at CChen@milbank.org . About the ELP ELP is a month leadership development program for midcareer legislative and executive branch state government official expenses for travel, lodging, mealsand incidental expenses are covered by the Fundso there is no cost to participants. The program helps participants develop practicalleadership skillsbuild and utilize a network of workand increase their capacity to work with others who have different values, motivations and political affiliations than their own.You can find detailed information about the program in the ELP Brochure . When selecting participants, the Fund will prioritize candidateswho demonstrate the following: A commitment to population healthincluding promotinghealth equityDemonstrated leadershipin positions

of significant responsibility and public impactInterest in evidenceinformed policymaking, including a desire to build their skills to assess the potential impacts of policy proposalsInquisitiveness, including an ability to learn from others, regardless of title or affiliation, and apply lessons from other states in their own communitiesA focus on impact, including a desire to develop and implement innovative, practical policy solutions that can improve the health of communities in their stateCollegialityin exchanges of ideasand discussionand in an interest in building lasting relationshipswith colleaguesAdditionally, the Fund is committed to creatinga diverse cohort of participants that includes:Leaders of colorwe strongly encourage nominations of people of colorRegional representationwe strive to have participants from a variety of statesandregionsPolitical arty balancewe strive to have balanced representation by party affiliationPosition and rolewe strive to have a mix of legislative and executive participants Instructions for Nominating a CandidatetoELP There are two ways to nominate a candidateto the program Option Online (Preferred) online form take approximately 10 minutesto completeIt will require you touploadthenominee’s resumeand a brief (1 page maximum) letterof recommendationdescribing how the potential participantdemonstratesthe attributes listed above(see “Selection Criteria”)would benefit from participating in ELP. Please complete the online nomination form in one sittingnfortunately, you cannotsave responses and finish laterPlease make sure you have the nominee’s resume and your letter of recommendation ready to upload beforestarting the online nomination form.
