PTA Info

•We need everyone to join the PTA! The money supports the activities that the PTA plans each year. You can join the PTA by filling out a membership form or joining online on the PTA website. Individual memberships are $10 and household memberships are $15.•Today is the last day to purchase Linden Hill’s new SPIRIT WEAR! Go to the LH PTA website and click on the spirit wear tab. There will be another spirit wear sale later this year!

School Day

8:50-3:40No one may ride any bus except the one they are assigned to

Siblings may not come into school during the instructional day Early dismissals must be done by 3:15

Notes required for every dismissal change

Doors are locked at 4:00-check online or with a friend for announcements

Health and Well-Being

Please check in with your child and discuss how they are feeling each morning discuss any injuries from last night's sporting events or booboos or symptoms they may have.Many students come through the door each morning with aches and ailments and want to go to the nurse.

I have found that it is helpful if they have already talked to you about their issue.Please check Mrs. Muffley’s website for health and wellness procedures.

Snack

Please send a healthy non-nut snack for your child to eat each day around 10:05.Please only send plain water for drinking.Snacks should be able to be eaten pretty quickly and without mess.These are snacks not meals. Students will eat while they are completing their reading classwork.

No Birthday foods to share allowed. District wellness policy.

9:05-10:30Reader’s Workshop- students will Predict/read/summarize/connect to a weekly Scott Foresman

story and books in a particular genreI will present mini-lessons on particular skills before they read.

We will use the writing process- prewriting, drafting, revising and editing, publishing to write narrative, persuasive, informative, and creative piecesWe will learn grammar rules.

Students will use rubrics to self assess their writing

Students will be grouped according to needs for reading and mathThe students will work on skills that they are struggling with.

Some students may go to other rooms or be serviced by other teachers at this time.

Silent Reading

Personal Reading Choice is part of our reading curriculumStudents are expected to have a personal book at all times.

They will complete a Scholastic Reading test to find their lexile level. For optimal results they should choose books close to their lexile. (However, they can read any/all books)Students will be required to write a summary of the book they read as they complete their reading time each day.

1:50-2:55We are using the Math Expressions curriculum to present the 3rd

Common Core aligned Curriculum which focuses on the 8 Mathematical PracticesEngaging, hands on activities and Math TalksWhole Group, Small Group, Independent Practice is incorporated throughout the lessons

Third Graders need to know their addition and subtraction basic facts fluently and learn their multiplication basic facts. (Flash cards)

Homework is placed in mailboxes and students are responsible for getting it at pack up timeHomework is copied into agendas each day

Reading- students are expected to read each night

Math- students will have math homework most nights.They will list the page in their agenda.PLAY!!! Talk to your family about your day!

Behavior

We are trying to instill a sense of responsibility for one’s actions in our students.The behavior plan is driven by “The Leader in Me”,

“Love and Logic”, and “Responsive Classrooms”.

The classroom rules are “Be Nice, Be Safe, and Work Hard”

I do what is right because “It benefits my life and makes me proud of myself. It is my character. It is who I am.”

What is Schoology?

Schoology is an online tool that manages curriculum, assessments, grading and other classroom management tasks and is also a communication platform for educators and students.Every parent/guardian will have an account that can be linked with their children's accounts. When parents log in, they will see an interface that links them to their children’s courses/groups.Accessing SchoologyLog in Steps (mailed home)Online Access : www.Schoology.comMobile App AccessSchoology also has a convenient mobile app that can be downloaded and used on mobile phones, tablets, and iPads! This app can be found in the Google Play and iTunes stores.

What is Clever?

Clever is a single sign-on app. that students can access through google.Your student can access the Clever log-in from the Linden Hill Home Page. http://redclay.schoolwires.net/lindenhillGo to the drop down that says Resources.

It will drop down and you will see Clever.-Click it.Scroll down. Click on the blue Clever underlined word.It will say log in with Google… click in that box If they need to put in a username and password it will be their google one…

which is their lunch number usually with 2 zero’s in front of it. Password is their lunch number as is.

Other Little Tidbits

Conferences are on the two full days before Thanksgiving and I will be sending home notices to schedule them. (Nov. 21st, 22nd)

E-mail distribution list-I will send a weekly email with what we are working on in class for the following week. It will include important dates and anything else you need to know for the coming week.
