1 Getting a Vascular Ultrasound What is Vascular Ultrasound? Ultrasound makes pictures of the inside of the body using sound . When you get a vascular ultrasound, we move a probe across your skin. The probe sends out sound waves, which send images to a computer. The result is a “picture” of your veins and arteries. Ultrasound is safe and usually painless. Ultrasound exams do not use x - rays . Getting Ready for Your Ultrasound Wear loose - fitting clothes. You may need to take off some clothes in the exam room. During and After Your Ultrasound You sign a consent form. We may ask you to wear a gown. We’ll put a clear gel on your skin . T hen we slide the probe over it. You may hear sounds that change as we test the blood flow. When we are finished, we wipe off the clear gel. After your ultrasound, you can go back to your normal day. Questions? Call Us!
