What we BELIEVE in . . . Our STANDARD

Our Core B.E.L.I.E.V.E.’sBalance – Effort – Leadership – Integrity – Energy – Value – Enthusiasm

Our

One Rule

Don’t

do anything that reflects poorly on yourself, your school, your family, and our program

Slide8

Our Cougar Standard

I am a member of the Kempner Cougar Men’s Basketball TEAM. I am committed to achieving excellence in everything I do. I am a COMPETITOR. I compete for my-self, my teammates, my coaches, my family, and my school. I will give my absolute best effort towards being positive and becoming the BEST VERSION of myself, on and off the court. I will remember that I am a STUDENT-athlete first and I will hold myself to a higher academic standard. I understand that being a member of this TEAM puts me in a position of leadership. Therefore, I commit my words and actions in the halls and classrooms to help uphold the platform of the “athlete” at Kempner High School. I vow to use my platform to represent the Cougars with integrity, while holding my teammates to that standard as well. I understand that a meaningful life is a life of sacrifice, so I will work to add value to those around me and look for ways to serve others. I am a work in progress, but by upholding our COUGAR STANDARD, I am committing to that progress.

I

am a Kempner Cougar.

Mega Lunch tutorials. NO REASON FOR 0’s!

We DO NOT SACRIFICE OUR PRACTICES FOR THINGS THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF PRIOR TO LAST WEEK OF GRADES

Most instances of poor grades are due to discipline and focus and revolve around use of CELL PHONES.

It’s OKAY TO TAKE THEM

INJURED

or HURT…There is a big

difference

Parent

MAY NOT ask for child to sit out of

practiceNeeds to be accompanied by a DR note or email from our Athletic Trainer

Player

needs to attend 6:45 a.m. or M.L. Treatments if they are HURT OR INJURED and missing practice

What

we WON’T TALK

ABOUT

Other

Players and

parents

Offensive

/ Defensive

philosophy

Playing Time**

**”Players think, put me in, and I’ll SHOW YOU. Coaches think, SHOW ME, and I’ll put you in”.

Big difference between the two mentalities.

Playing Time will be EARNED AT PRACTICE.

VERY RARELY is a student-athlete doing EVERYTHING RIGHT, and not playing!

Slide13

3 of 10 Commandments of Cougar Basketball Parents

Be Positive with your son

A TEAM

has

roles and roles

aren’t equal. Encourage him to fulfill his role to the best of his ability. If he wants a bigger role, he proves it in practice 1st, then in games, AFTER he has shown he deserves more. IT IS NOT GIVEN OUT OF WANT. Try this after a game, “ I love watching you play/compete”. *Car Rides*

Do not openly criticize his coachesYou may not necessarily agree with us, but negativity at home, breeds negativity on the court and at practice by your son. If given a

choice

, your child will always side with you! That’s not a bad thing…you are his

parent

, but that doesn’t necessarily bode well if we are asking different of him.

If

there is an issue, stress HIS communication with his coach. They may not like what we have to say. That’s OKAY!Be our biggest fans! Be

positive and encouraging with ALL team members. Treat other parents,

teammates

, and OFFICIALS…yes them…with respect. Believe it or not, it doesn’t

help

when you yell at the officials!

Slide14

Practice

Playing time is EARNED, not GIVEN. Earned at

practice!

Practices are CLOSED- NO

DISTRACTIONS

Help them take care of their bodiesHYDRATION, NUTRITION, and REST are key

Practices are MANDATORYIn the past, players have missed. Missing practice shows NO COMMITMENT!

Unexcused

absences from practice = NO

GAME/Limited game time

Player

,

NOT parent, must notify coach by text if an EMERGENCY comes upEMERGENCIES ARE NOT… Sniffles, 99 temp., tired, allergies, etc.

Missing

Practice for any reason = MAKEUP

CONDITIONING

Injured-

See our Athletic Trainer. She will refer to DR…if needed
