Black Lives Matter means . . .
I don't get to hide in my shell and do the easy thing anymore. It means I am responsible as a person of privilege.
Our society tends to discount the lives of people of color. Up to and including quipping "all lives matter" as a way to avoid addressing the true problem
.
Our society has demonstrated through its history and collective actions that black lives matter less than other lives
When it comes to civil rights, we have progressed in only two things: our ability to camouflage racism and the technological means to uncover it.Slide16
Black Lives Matter means . . .
We have a responsibility to affirm those who have lived under oppression and marginalization
We have a responsibility to stand with those who have lived under oppression and marginalization
Black people are human beings
Black people have loves, and dreams, and hopes, and ambitions
Black people are precious to God.
Black people bear the image of the creator.Slide17
“Black Americans are crying to be seen empathetically....... please just stop for a moment and recognize that we have been an invisible people via our national institutions which have created divisions among us. See beyond the created institutional lens (and there are many) and simply view through the heart: empathetically.” Slide18Slide19
At the heart of the gospel is a cross where we die and are born again as one family
.
At the heart of the gospel is a table where men and women, old and young, rich and poor, natives and foreigners, black and white share a meal and serve each other,Slide20
