Vocab unit #4 Welcome back  Please get out your vocab and get ready for unit 4! Phones up ***EVERYTHING WILL BE GRADED BY THE END OF THE DAY! We are almost at the middle of the semester (next week) so please stay on top of your grades, if you need to get your life together DO IT NOW!!! Also, tutoring if needed

Aesthetic (?) – having to do with the quality of beauty​We are making aesthetic improvements to the building.

Erroneous (?) – wrong; incorrect She knew that the testimony was erroneous, but her attorney advised her to sign the transcript anyway.

Capricious (?) – whimsical, erratic, arbitrary​ Because of his capricious nature, Jeremy found it hard to keep a steady job

Rescind (?)– to take back, to revoke​I cannot believe Janice’s boyfriend tried to rescind his marriage proposal!

Innocuous (?) – harmless, inoffensive​The scientist poured the innocuous liquid into the vial.

Ambivalent (?) – doubtful, unresolved, wavering​ When it comes to the election, I am ambivalent about the candidates

Sycophant (?) – flatterer, lackey, buttkisser​ Everyone knows a sycophant is nothing but a “yes” man or a “yes” woman.

Ameliorate (?) – to make better, to alleviate​He wanted to ameliorate the present suffering

Furtive (?)  – secretive, without notice, subtle​Students who cheat on tests employ their furtive tactics to avoid getting caught.

Philanthropy (?)  – charity, altruism, good works​​My children realize helping others through philanthropy is much better than wasting money on foolish toys
