*Game cancelling instructions informationcoaches or managers are responsible

Teams should not have a need to cancel games since the VHL allows teams the opportunity to blackout special tournament/event dates.  However, in the event of last minute conflicts, there is an online game cancellation form that all coaches should utilize whenever cancelling a game.  This form will generate an email to the opposing coach, program director and the VHL office, notifying all parties of the cancellation.  It will also prompt the opponent to respond electronically as to whether they intend to utilize the ice and officials.  This streamlines the process and eliminates the possibly of miscommunication.

If your team cancels a game, the opponent has the right of first refusal to the ice and officials for the originally scheduled game.

If the team that is cancelled upon (and/or another team in that program) does not wish to use the ice and/or officials, the cancelling team's program then has the right to utilize the ice and officials.  If neither team wishes to utilize the ice, provided there is sufficient advance notice, the VHL will attempt to fill that game slot with another game that may have been previously cancelled due to weather or other reason.  If the VHL is successful in filling the original game slot neither team will be penalized/charged for the cancelled game.

The team that cancels the original game is responsible to  makeup the game at their expenses (ice, officials and timer).

If the cancelling team does not makeup the original game, they will be charged 2 game fees and the opponent that was cancelled upon will be credited the game fee
