When he established His Church, Jesus placed the Apostles in charge of caring for people and telling them about himself. He placed Peter at the head of the Apostles. Now down through time that authority has been handed on from Pope to Pope. This is called Apostolic Succession. The Pope is the successor of St Peter and is at the head of the Church. He leads the Bishops (the successors of the Apostles) who themselves lead the People in their local Churches. . I. After Jesus Christ died on the cross, His body was placed in a new tomb but after 3 days He came out of the tomb and was alive again. This is what is called resurrection. After He became alive again He appeared to His disciples for 40 days. He told them many things about His kingdom in heaven and about how they are supposed to tell every body about Jesus Christ. . The Purpose. I have a friend who is hindu and I was talking to her about my journey through confirmation. At this point in time I hadn’t picked out who I was going to be writing my gospel to. Mark 8:34 – “Whoever desires to come after me, let him deny himself (garden work), and take up his cross, and follow me.”. Without Gethsemane, there’s no Golgotha. The garden must precede the cross and is the first work in following Jesus.. According to the Acts of the Apostles, Jesus appeared to his disciples during the forty days after Easter: On the fortieth day, "he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight" (Acts 1:9). . “go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and he goeth before you…” Matthew 28:6-7 “Follow Me!” Jesus gave the command to “Follow Me” 17 times (before His crucifixion). Good Morning. Today we hear how Jesus prayed for his disciples – asking God to protect them and to help them to follow his word. Let us think a bit more about this means for us today. .
