Gire also has established a long record of dedication to her community throughpublic service, including serving as a member of the Mount Clemens City Commission from 1977 to 1984, anda member of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners from 1984 to 1986; and WHEREAS, from 1987 to 1998, Sharon L. Gire was elected as a member of the Michigan House ofmb County and eventually serving as Associate Speakerucation Policy Committee, and the House Committee onWHEREAS, during her tenure with the state Legislature, Sharon L. Gire initiated major reforms andprovided leadership through establishing the Michigan of Rights, and raised continued awareness of the WHEREAS, in 1999, Sharon L. Gire was elected to the State Board of Education for a term beginningJanuary 1, 1999, serving as the Board’s Delegate to the National Association of State Boards of Education001 until her resignation to accept an appointment byMichigan Governor Jennifer M.
