The Author’s Viewpoint

When writing a story, the author creates a character from scratch, thinking carefully about their

personality and behaviour. The vocabulary choices they use when writing about their character are very important in ensuring they develop a character’s mood, attitude, personality through speech, action and description.

Adverbials are very important in developing the character’s mood throughout a story.Slide3

Your Task

Once you have completed your

story map, using highlighters or coloured pencils, go back through the whole text and identify adverbials which give us more information about the main character (Georgy).

You may wish to colour code them (example) :Red – whenGreen- where

Orange-howWhilst doing so, see if you can identify the author’s viewpoint on Georgy the Goat, magpie-ing the language features you highlight and jotting them down on post it notes. You can stick these around your story map.
