Sealing Unused WellsPrivate Wells and Public Water Systems: Transcript
Unused wells that are not properly abandoned or decommissioned can be a hazard Along with potentially contaminating water supplies unused wells that are not sealed can be dangerous Wells can go. Driven wells can be deeper than dug wells They are typically 30 to 50 feet deep and are usually located in areas with thick sand and gravel deposits where the ground water table is within 15 feet of the grounds surface In the proper geologic setting It provides a direct unhindered route for pollutants to reach an aquiferan underground water supply The best and only safeguard against this kind of situation is to properly seal all aban doned wells Sealing a well is generally not an expensive proc Oils which meet the same specification and class type are miscible in all proportions However when oils mixed as per the above guidelines the mixture should meet the respective standard used In case of mixing unused oils of different origin class Alana Miller ‘15, EJ Baik ‘16, Daniel Ma ‘17. Geothermal systems use the nearly constant temperature of the ground as a heat source in the winter and as a heat sink in the summer. Properly designed and installed, these systems can heat and cool efficiently. Because these systems are often intimately connected with underground sources of drinking water, the North Carolina Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program of the Division of Water Quality regulates the construction and operation of these systems in order to keep the ground water suitable for drinking..
